Yu Chua\nAssociate Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine\nUP College of Medicine\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #293\nJuly 24, 2026 (Friday), 12:00 noon\nSaklolo!\n“Nagiging Bayolente Na Ba Ang Kabataan Ngayon?”\n\nThe recent tragic events, most notably the devastating school shooting in Tacloban, have violently fractured our collective sense of security and propelled the psychological well-being of our youth to the forefront of national discourse. This unprecedented incident serves as a harrowing clinical indicator of a much broader epidemiological crisis: the escalating incidence of severe aggression and violence among Filipino adolescents.\n\nSociological analyses and epidemiological data increasingly correlate this phenomenon with a pervasive, systemic culture of violence, one that is continuously reinforced by the normalization of aggressive narratives across digital and traditional media ecosystems. Such chronic environmental stressors exacerbate underlying neurodevelopmental vulnerabilities during the critical periods of adolescence, manifesting in maladaptive behaviors that require urgent, specialized clinical attention rather than mere disciplinary action.\n\nIn this week’s episode, we will attempt to dismantle the reactive, punitive frameworks that have historically failed our at-risk youth by advocating instead for a paradigm shift toward comprehensive, trauma-informed psychosocial support and evidence-based community interventions. We will discuss a rigorous clinical examination of the systemic etiology of youth violence. We will also talk about the complex neurobiological and sociological paradigms into actionable, interdisciplinary strategies designed to foster protective, resilient environments within our educational and community institutions.\n\nOur speaker is Dr. Constantine L. Yu Chua, who is an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine of the UP College of Medicine. Join us to learn how to identify early psychological warning signs, mitigate the impact of digital media conditioning, and champion a holistic mental health infrastructure for the healing of our communities and the safeguarding of the psychological future of our youth.\n
