ABOUT
The Department of Parasitology, College of Public Health, University of the Philippines Manila, will virtually hold the 2nd International Forum on Collaborative Researches in Parasitic Diseases this 25 May 2021, 8 AM to 12 PM. This is in line with the goal of the department to do collaborative research with different national and international institutions that will help in the alleviation of various parasitic diseases. With these collaborative researches, the department is able to fulfill its mandate and align with the vision of the university as the leading research hub in health sciences in the country.

Dr. Shin-ichiro Kawazu, Director of the National Research Center for Protozoan Diseases, Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, will serve as the Keynote Speaker to talk about the 13 years of collaborative works between the Department of Parasitology, CPH, UP Manila and his institution.

With the theme “The Future of Parasitology Diagnostics," speakers for the scientific presentations are Dr. David McMillen of the University of Toronto (who will talk about the yeast-cell based immunoassays for infectious diseases), Dr. Jason Cantera of PATH USA (on the results of his study on recombinase polymerase amplification for soil-transmitted helminthiases), Dr. Yasuyuki Goto of the University of Tokyo (on the use of tandem repeats in developing serological tests for parasitic diseases). and Dr. Chia-Kwung Fan (on the possible silent progression of cerebral toxocariasis and neurodegeneration).

Reactors include Dr. Windell Rivera of the Institute of Biology, College of Science, UP Diliman, and Dr.Mario Antonio Jiz of Research Institute for Tropical Medicine, Department of Health.
