IPB would like to invite you to "A Forum on the Future of Plant Breeding: Exploring New Frontiers" on November 10, 2021, 9:00 a.m. (PH time) via Zoom. This forum is open to all, especially plant breeders, scientists, and biology students. Certificates will be provided.
The goal of the webinar is to know how plant breeders could steer research programs into the direction of sustainable agriculture by harnessing the plant microbiome. This is a first of the IPB webinar series on exploring new frontiers in plant breeding, one that is based on the agricultural microbiome. In this webinar, Drs. Eufemio Rasco, Jr., Rodel Maghirang, and Maggie Wagner will provide expert insights on this promising, yet untapped field of research as an appropriate management option to sustain crop productivity.
The participants will be introduced to the emerging concept of the individual as a community of organisms rather than one organism, offering new possibilities for developing novel combinations of traits useful for crops. Breeding for traits that offer more autonomy to the plant and less dependence on external inputs are justified given the pandemic situation and threats of bigger disasters such as climate change.
