SUMMARY:A MEMORIAL FOR LOLA: An Expression of Self-Identity from Stitching Memories of Home
DESCRIPTION:A MEMORIAL FOR LOLA: An Expression of Self-Identity from Stitching Memories of Home\n\nA solo exhibition of BASIL MALICSI\n\nSINING MAKILING GALLERY\nDL Umali Hall\, UP Los Baños\nGallery hours: 8 AM to 6 PM\, Monday to Friday\nExhibit opens on 4 October 2022 and will run until 16 December 2022\n————————————\nExamining the labor and art of sewing as a meditative ritual that brings forth memories to memorialize loved ones\, Basil Malicsi utilizes the medium of retasos/fabric scraps through his creation of hard and soft sculpture installations.\n\nFeaturing 42 hand-stitched tapestries\, Malicsi takes us into the meditative and spellbinding ritual of sewing by using vibrant colors of yarns and threads to piece together fabric scraps from his studio as a fashion designer. Each collage tapestry was made during the two-year period of the pandemic which helped the artist maintain a healthy mental state during the quarantine period of the pandemic.\n\nEncouraging a dialogue between memorializing\, meditation and identity\, Malicsi creates a 10-ft high\, 16 ft x 16 ft area installation in the form of a labyrinth to recall his childhood memories with his home that he shared with his grandmother through the meditative ritual of sewing. The monumental structure\, along with the objects inside the labyrinth\, stands as a way of honoring his late grandmother and as a symbolic gesture that memories are bigger than our physical\, mental\, and spiritual psyche combined.\n\nInviting the viewer to understand\, visualize\, and feel every part of the space\, the artist enables the work to be tactile by encouraging the viewer to walk around and touch each of the pieces.\n\nSource: UPLB Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts Facebook

DEATHS Webinar Series.\n(Current COVID-19 problems; Other outbreaks; Viruses; Infections; Disasters)\nSo sign up NOW:\nbit.ly/StopCOVIDDeathsWebinar124 \n  \nWebinar #124\nNovember 4\, 2022 (Friday) 12nn\n“BAGO NA NAMAN? XBB and BQ.1.1 Alamin!”\n\nPresenters:\nDr. Franco Felizarta\nInfectious Disease Specialist\nUPMASA\n\nDr. Anna Lisa T. Ong-Lim\nMember\, DOH Technical Advisory Group\nPediatric Infectious Diseases\n\nSynthesis and Closing Remarks:\nDr. Stella Marie L. Jose\nDeputy Director for Health Operations\nUP Philippine General Hospital\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #124\nNovember 4\, 2022 (Friday) 12nn\n“BAGO NA NAMAN? XBB and BQ.1.1 Alamin!”\n\nFor months now\, the Omicron variant has been the most dominant COVID-19 variant in the world with surges in cases on almost every continent. However\, new variants have again cropped up — the XBB subvariant of Omicron is a recombinant of BJ.1 (of the BA.2.10.1 sublineage) and the BM.1.1.1 (of the BA.2.75 sublineage) while the BQ.1.1 is a descendant of the BA.5 subvariant of Omicron.\n\nThere are now a little over 4 million cases of COVID-19 cases recorded in the Philippines to date. Currently\, the proportion of individuals testing positive for COVID-19\, at least in Metro Manila and several provinces\, have gone down to 10 percent while rates for Isabela\, Benguet\, Cebu\, and Negros Occidental have gone up. As the holiday season approaches\, it is expected that the number of cases in the country will likely rise and fall in the coming months as the Omicron subvariants may cause reinfections and breakthrough infections even among those who have previously contracted COVID-19 from Omicron or among those who have already received 2 doses of the primary vaccination series. These new Omicron subvariants\, which have been associated with significant immune escape and antibody evasion\, are now causes of concern. Hence\, hospital admissions are being monitored\, as well as cases in the ICU.\n\nIn this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS\, we will have familiar speakers to discuss these Omicron subvariants: Dr. Franco Felizarta\, infectious disease specialist based in California\, USA\, will provide the latest information and everything we need to know about the variant based on scientific studies while Dr. Anna Ong Lim\, pediatric infectious diseases specialist from the Philippine General Hospital will provide additional information on what we can do to protect ourselves vis-a-vis the new policies that have been issued in recent weeks. The Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Stella Marie L. Jose\, Deputy Director for Health Operations of UP Philippine General Hospital.\n\nJoin us as we tackle this new topic on Friday\, November 4th\, because the pandemic is not yet over. See you online! Together\, we can STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS!
