DESCRIPTION:A MEMORIAL FOR LOLA: An Expression of Self-Identity from Stitching Memories of Home\n\nA solo exhibition of BASIL MALICSI\n\nSINING MAKILING GALLERY\nDL Umali Hall\, UP Los Baños\nGallery hours: 8 AM to 6 PM\, Monday to Friday\nExhibit opens on 4 October 2022 and will run until 16 December 2022\n————————————\nExamining the labor and art of sewing as a meditative ritual that brings forth memories to memorialize loved ones\, Basil Malicsi utilizes the medium of retasos/fabric scraps through his creation of hard and soft sculpture installations.\n\nFeaturing 42 hand-stitched tapestries\, Malicsi takes us into the meditative and spellbinding ritual of sewing by using vibrant colors of yarns and threads to piece together fabric scraps from his studio as a fashion designer. Each collage tapestry was made during the two-year period of the pandemic which helped the artist maintain a healthy mental state during the quarantine period of the pandemic.\n\nEncouraging a dialogue between memorializing\, meditation and identity\, Malicsi creates a 10-ft high\, 16 ft x 16 ft area installation in the form of a labyrinth to recall his childhood memories with his home that he shared with his grandmother through the meditative ritual of sewing. The monumental structure\, along with the objects inside the labyrinth\, stands as a way of honoring his late grandmother and as a symbolic gesture that memories are bigger than our physical\, mental\, and spiritual psyche combined.\n\nInviting the viewer to understand\, visualize\, and feel every part of the space\, the artist enables the work to be tactile by encouraging the viewer to walk around and touch each of the pieces.\n\nSource: UPLB Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts Facebook

DESCRIPTION:University of the Philippines Fine Arts professor\, painter and philatelist Marco Ruben T. Malto II undertakes to revisit the life and legacy of the foremost Filipino hero within the realm of philately in his solo exhibit titled “Sulat: Retelling Rizal through Philately.” In partnership with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines through Museo ni Jose Rizal Fort Santiago\, Malto curates his personal collection featuring philatelic items\, artifacts\, and archival materials to commemorate Jose Rizal’s 126th Death Anniversary this December.\n\nThink of our most revered Filipino patriot Jose Rizal as a TikToker creating POVs on his travels\, or talking about our Spanish colonial conditions and his aspirations for la Patria mia! Can you imagine his firing squad footage going viral? How would cancel culture deal with his highly controversial views?\n\nEven in the absence of the internet and social media platforms during his time\, Jose Rizal was every bit a blogger\, a celebrity\, a content creator and an influencer with a massive following. Instead of posts\, tweets or video uploads\, Rizal shared his ideas\, and ideals\, through his most notable novels\, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo\, his socio-political essays published in La Solidaridad\, and his countless other writings that resonate with Filipinos. DESCRIPTION:For the past two years\, the University of the Philippines Symphony Orchestra (UPSO) has continued its tradition of community concerts on the online platform. This year\, for the first time since the pandemic\, UPSO will be celebrating the holidays face-to-face with the Diliman community!\n\nTagged as the orchestra for the people or Orkestra ng Bayan\, UPSO serves as the official system-wide orchestra for the university.\n\nThey maintain a roster of 65 members Exclusively from the alumni\, students\, faculty\, and staff of all UP campuses. They have been under the direction of Maestro Josefino Chino Toledo since their inception in August 2018.\n\nIn celebration of the season and the university\, UPSO will be joined by four choirs from three different campuses: the UP Concert Chorus and the UP Singing Ambassadors from UP Diliman\, the UP Los Baños Choral Ensemble\, and the UP Manila Chorale. \nThe UP Concert Chorus.\nThe UP Los Baños Choral Ensemble.
