After three years of dormancy\, The UP Painters’ Club (UPPC) is finally back to present what the organization’s resident members and alumni could offer with their skillful hands and eleventh extra finger\, ika-labing isang daliri\, figuratively the media or tool of their choice which makes the creation of their artworks possible. The annual art exhibit serves as an avenue for the artists to express themselves in different shapes and forms\, and to continue uplifting visual arts appreciation across different communities.\n\nThe UPPC is the longest-living visual arts organization in the science- and technology-oriented University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB). The organization was founded on July 1\, 1992 by Mario C. Angay together with 10 charter members. From the Visionaries\, Teserae\, and 30 years later with batch Figulus\, the organization remains to be a safe haven of visual arts in UPLB. Since then\, UPPC has become an avenue for artists and art enthusiasts alike devoted to enhancing their skills and talents in the field of visual arts.\n\nLabing-Isang Daliri 2023 is not merely an art exhibit\, but also a celebration of artistry from different generations and academic fields. It is an event that serves as a reminder to everyone\, artists and art enthusiasts of different backgrounds\, that there is a space for us\, and for the artworks that we make or we will make with our hands and our chosen eleventh finger.\n\nSource: UPLB Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts Facebook

JOSE\nHead\, Expanded Education and Training Office\nUP Philippine General Hospital\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #132\nFebruary 3\, 2023\nClimate Change and Post-COVID-19 Health Security\n\nClimate change is said to be the greatest threat to public health. The threat is described as “existential” as there are concerns that survival of humanity itself hangs in the balance. There are multiple and complex pathways for negative impacts on health from food security to injuries from disasters and catastrophic events. Slow onset events (SOE) like rising sea levels will have serious consequences on archipelagos like the Philippines. Meanwhile\, abrupt changes brought about by disasters\, emergencies and pandemics can threaten health security overnight. How do we prepare for these scenarios? What is the role of health sector in climate action?\n\nIn this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS\, we deviate a little from the usual format and welcome a partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to discuss climate and health security — as we reflect on the post-COVID era. What have we learned? What can we do better?\n\nIn a more formal run of show\, we will open with a message from ADB Principal Health Specialist for Southeast Asia Development\, Dr. Eduardo Banzon\, who oversees the work of the bank in 11 countries and has prioritized climate and health in its workplan. The main presenter is Dr. Susan Mercado\, Co-chair of the National Panel of Technical Experts of the Philippine Climate Change Commission and recently appointed Co-editor and Regional Adviser for Asia and the Pacific for The British Medical Journal. Reaction will be given by Dr. Teodoro J. Herbosa\, Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the UP Philippine General Hospital. Closing Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Stella Marie L. Jose\, Head of the Expanded Education and Training Office at UP Philippine General Hospital.\n\nJoin us in this webinar in partnership with ADB through Technical Assistance 6767\, which organizes the SECURE Webinar Series as a platform to document\, disseminate and promote innovative approaches and best practices for COVID-19 vaccination among Southeast Asia developing member countries. It serves as a venue for knowledge and information exchange among governments\, development partners\, civil society organization networks and other key stakeholders.\n\nBe updated on the most serious public health concern of our generation.\n\nTogether\, we can Stop C.O.V.I.D. Deaths!
