DESCRIPTION:IMPRINTED IN THE WATER\n\nA Solo Exhibit of\nNICOLEI BUENDIA GUPIT\n\nSINING MAKILING GALLERY\nD.L. Umali Hall\, UPLB\n\nOpening on 9 May 2023\nExhibit runs until 30 June 2023\n\n————————-\n\nInspired by her surroundings in Los Baños\, Laguna\, Nicolei Buendia Gupit presents to us in her third solo show\, Imprinted in the Water\, a range of mediums and processes that highlight the impact of human activities on water resources.\n\nBy using prints of man-made objects\, Gupit highlights the ways in which we have come to rely on water resources for our own needs\, often at the expense of the environment and other human and non-human life. The wet pigment that she uses to dye her surfaces suggests the fluidity and mutability of water\, and the need for us to consider our effect on this vital resource. Its subdued palette emanates an ominous atmosphere that conveys the gloomy reality we face. Connecting this with images of marine life skeletons\, she concocts impressions of the devastating ramifications of pollution and overfishing on aquatic ecosystems. Uprooted trees hint at the destruction of natural habitats\, while flaky tin roofs allude to the consequences of climate change and natural disasters in the lives of marginalized Filipinos yearly. She also incorporates bottle-shaped resin works that carry paper money inside them—probing pieces that challenge viewers to consider the value we place on water and the attendant effects of its privatization.\n\nThrough her artworks\, Gupit challenges viewers to consider their own relationship with water and the ways in which our actions can have far-reaching consequences. She invites us to think about the imprint that we are leaving on the natural world\, and to consider how we might work to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all. DESCRIPTION:The UP College of Nursing and UP-Philippine General Hospital is inviting you to join our Advanced Course in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing in the Inpatient Setting!\n\nThis course is designed to equip BSN-prepared nurses with post-basic competencies in providing evidence-based\, safe\, and quality nursing care for patients with mental health and psychiatric problems in the acute inpatient setting. This 45-hours intensive and immersive advanced hybrid course will be delivered through 5 weeks of asynchronous module-guided sessions with once-a-week 2-hour synchronous discussion sessions\, and 1 week of an in-person workshop (including PGH-Behavioral Medicine Ward tour and observation).\n\nThere will be 5 modules of lectures and 1 module of workshops. The 5 modules are delivered per week with 3-4 hours of asynchronous lectures\, teaching-learning activities\, and 2 hours of weekly synchronous discussion. This will allow the participants to work at their own pace and at the same time truly immerse in the different concepts and topics. The topics include the therapeutic use of self\, therapeutic communication\, psychiatric assessment\, and interview\, interventions for different maladaptive behaviors\, discharge planning\, and community rehabilitation. For the last module\, an in-person workshop will be conducted which will focus on skills training in psychiatric interview and the management of maladaptive behaviors.\n\nThe intended participants will include all registered nurses with at least 1 year of clinical experience who want to specialize in Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing\, Nurses who are currently practicing in a psychiatric facility or institution\, and Nursing Faculty who teach Psychiatric Nursing.\n\nThe registration fee is 7\,000 pesos. These techniques enable precise tumor localization\, staging\, and evaluation of treatment response.\n\nInterventional radiology plays a vital role in cancer management by providing minimally invasive treatment options. Procedures such as image-guided biopsies\, ablation therapies\, and embolization have significantly improved patient outcomes and quality of life.\n\nIn the field of radiation oncology\, the integration of advanced techniques like intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)\, stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT)\, and proton therapy has led to enhanced tumor targeting and reduced treatment-related side effects. DESCRIPTION:The pipeline—as a carrier of oil\, water\, or fiberoptic cables—is a military infrastructure that brings dispersed geographical sites in political and economic relation.\n\nLowered onto seabeds or buried underground\, pipelines change ecologies and shape relations in invisible yet irrevocable ways. But as a literary metaphor\, the pipeline can be a tool for noticing submerged connections between literary cultures and even reveal weak nodes in organizing structures.\n\nFor the 8th Heo/Geo Lecture Series\, the UP Department of Geography and the Philippine Geographical Society present a talk by Dr Trisha Remetir at the University of California-Riverside. Titled\, “Pipeline Poetics”\, the lecture is on Friday\, 26 May 2023 at 4:00 PM Philippine Standard Time | 12:00 AM Pacific Standard Time.\n\nFor this talk\, it asks: what can a close consideration of pipelines reveal about contemporary Filipino literary geographies? By reading poets like Eunice Andrada alongside critical ocean studies and logistics theorists such as Liz Deloughrey\, Nicole Starioselski\, Charmaine Chua and Craig Santos Perez\, Dr Remetir will discuss how an attention to pipelines (as physical structure and as literary metaphor) might reroute literary analysis away from focusing on experience to focusing on structure. For example\, in Eunice Andrada’s 2021 poetry collection ‘Take Care’\, an engagement with pipelines in stanza and image reveals the larger industries of capitalist extraction that require Filipino transnational labor.\n\nFollowing Filipinos along the pipeline\, the talk hopes to reveal the limits of a literary analysis that is oriented towards a diasporic longing for home\, and instead gestures toward spaces (such as the Gulf\, the Pacific) that demand our attention and imagination.\n\nTrisha Federis Remetir is a writer who specializes in narratives of race\, extraction\, and migration in and across the Pacific. She received her PhD in English and Comparative Literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2022 and is currently a Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Media and Cultural Studies at the University of California\, Riverside. Her book project\, Unfamiliar Waters\, traces how extractive industries over waterscapes have influenced contemporary films\, poetry\, and experimental media.
