JOSE FRANCISCO A. AGUILAR\nClinical Associate Professor\, Division of Neurosurgery\nUP-PGH Department of Neurosciences\n\nReactor:\nDR. CARISSA PAZ DIOQUINO\nChair\nUP-PGH Department of Neurosciences\n\nSynthesis & Closing Remarks:\nDR. STELLA MARIE L. JOSE\nHead\, Office of Expanded Education and Training\nUP Philippine General Hospital\n\n———————————————————–\n\nJuly 21\, 2023 (Friday) 12nn\nWebinar #155\n“Panginginig: May Lunas na Ba?\nHigh Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)”\n\nRhythmic shaking\, called tremor or “panginginig” can usually begin in a limb\, often your hand or fingers. The hand may tremble when it’s at rest. The shaking may decrease when performing tasks. Tremors\, whether caused by essential tremor\, Parkinson’s disease\, or other neurological conditions\, can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. Why does this happen and can it be cured or treated?\n\nConventional treatments have provided relief to some extent but often come with limitations and side effects. New non-invasive methods for treating the tremors of Parkinson’s and other causes are now available. In particular\, we will take a closer look at High Intensity Focused Ultrasound or HIFU. It uses intensive ultrasound to burn out the areas of the brain responsible for the tremor that is characteristic of Parkinson’s disease. The advantage of this method is that you do not need to perform brain surgery or use anesthesia. The patient undergoes the procedure in full consciousness and can notice a decrease in tremor immediately after the surgery. \nThis week on STOP COVID DEATHS\, we have one of the country’s foremost neurosurgeons from the PGH Division of Neurosurgery\, Dr. Jose Francisco A. Aguilar\, and Dr. Carissa Paz Dioquino\, who is the Chair of the Department of Neurosciences\, who will share invaluable insights into the mechanism behind HIFU\, which utilizes precisely focused ultrasound waves to target and thermally ablate specific brain areas responsible for tremors. Learn about the minimal risks and exceptional outcomes observed in clinical trials\, as well as the potential to improve patients’ mobility and daily activities. The Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Stella Marie L. Jose\, who is the Head of the PGH Office of Expanded Education and Training.\n\nThe webinar will go beyond HIFU\, encompassing a comprehensive discussion of current tremor management techniques\, emerging technologies\, and the challenges faced by patients and medical professionals. Interactive Q&A sessions will allow you to engage with our experts directly\, fostering a deeper understanding of this groundbreaking approach and its potential applicability in other medical fields.\n\nJoin us for an insightful\, thought-provoking\, and inspiring webinar on managing tremors through HIFU and other cutting-edge therapies. Let’s come together to revolutionize tremor treatment and improve the lives of millions worldwide.\n\nAnd together\, we can STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS!
