DESCRIPTION:UP Tacloban College joins the 2024 National Women’s Month Celebration with its Women Wednesdays+ program with the theme “Patas nga Katilingban ha Bag-o nga Pilipinas: Kapas han Kababayin-an\, Pamamatud-an!” (the Waray translation of the theme of the national celebration “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayanan ng Kababaihan\, Patutunayan!”).\n\nOn 6-7 March 2024\, a training-workshop for UP Tacloban male faculty\, REPS\, and staff will be held for the certification of the Men Opposed to VAW Everywhere (MOVE) UP Tacloban Chapter.\n\nOn 8 March\, International Women’s Day\, the Division of Humanities will host “Pasalingaday 2: Women in Documentary.” The term ‘pasalingaday’ is derived from ‘pasalida’ (meaning film or show) and ‘hingaday’ (meaning talk).\n\nOn 13 March\, out-of-school girls from selected barangays around Tacloban City will be trained in arnis and taekwondo in “PAK! Pukrat\, Ato\, Kabataan 2! A Gender Sensitivity and Self-Defense Training for Out-of-School Youth.”\n\nOn 20 March\, “Katungod han Kababayin-an: A Forum on Women’s Use of Maiden Name and Updates on the Amendment to Omnibus Rules on Leave” will be held for female faculty\, REPS\, and staff.\n\nNational Women’s Month is an annual celebration to honor women’s contributions to society and address ongoing and emerging issues related to women’s struggles for their rights and gender equality. DESCRIPTION:THIS MARCH AT PAROLA: LULAN\, ULILA\, LIHAM\, ALAGA\, NAMAN\n​\nTwo millennia ago\, the first sator square was discovered in the ruins of Pompeii\, among pumice and volcanic ash. Since then\, many other excavations revealed these same Latin words—SATOR\, AREPO\, TENET\, OPERA\, ROTAS—engraved on doorknobs and wall fragments\, etched on boxes\, and even skulls. From the debates\, we learn that perhaps the cryptogram had magical or incantatory properties\, that it functioned as a mystical lock. ​\n​\nLikewise\, LULAN\, ULILA\, LIHAM\, ALAGA\, NAMAN mark our claims to home. In this collaborative project\, each artist receives a sator-type square based on keywords that they use to personally represent the locale of their birth\, their dwelling\, and their artistic practice (while suppressing specific information). Released\, our creations move porously between text (the grid) and art (the visual forms). DESCRIPTION:HAPPENING THIS MARCH AT PAROLA: Matereality 💗\n\nThe exhibition’s title\, Matereality\, comprises three words: mater\, reality\, and materiality. This play on words encapsulates the curator’s intention to shake the frame that defines women’s lives\, particularly that of mothers\, by gathering and presenting diverse visual languages created by women artists. The exhibition was first held at Artinformal in Greenhills in April 2022. This exhibition marks its second iteration\, which brings together some of the artists from the previous edition along with new ones.
