SUMMARY:Atmospheres: Ugnayan @ 50
DESCRIPTION:The University of the Philippines Center for Ethnomusicology\nIn partnership with\nThe Department of Music Education College of Music\nWith the support of\nThe UP Diliman Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts\n\npresent\n\nA part of the UP Diliman Arts and Culture Festival 2024 “Pamamalagi at Pamamahagi”\n\nATMOSPHERES: UGNAYAN @ 50\n\nThis is a restaging of Jose Maceda’s composition titled Ugnayan (originally Atmospheres) for radio airwaves\, in celebration of the 50th year anniversary of its premiere. The work comprises 20 separate audio tracks that will be played simultaneously on participants’ mobile phones streamed from an online channel. The project hopes to unburden the piece of the shadows of 1970s Marcos propaganda that strain most art produced during that era and refocus on fostering the idea of community in performance —musicking as a communal activity that shapes the people. This is methodologically congruent with Maceda’s composition practice and responds to his provocation for us to think of how to respond to music if it is aided by superintelligent computers (1988).\n\nTALK\n3 May 2024 (FRI) | 1:30 – 4:30 PM\nUP Center for Ethnomusicology Library\nJose Maceda Hall\nUP Diliman\, Quezon City\n\nwith Speakers\nDr. Elizabeth L. However\, the talk has limited seats.\nInterested attendees and participants need to register first at: https://atmospheres.upethnom.com/registration/\nTo participate in the performance\, you will need a MOBILE PHONE with its own DATA SERVICE to be able to play a track of UGNAYAN during the event proper.\n\nEveryone is invited to participate. Anyone can perform.\n\nFor inquiries and questions\, please contact:\nRoan May Opiso or Jon-Philip Noveras\natmospheres.ugnayan50@gmail.com\n(02) 8981-8500 loc 2626\n\nSource: UP Center for Ethnomusicology Facebook
