SUMMARY:Archival Storage in Digital Preservation
DESCRIPTION:Happy International Archives Week!\n\nBackground\n(https://www.ica.org/…/about-international-archives-week/)\n\nArchives and archivists play an important role in accountability\, transparency\, democracy\, heritage\, memory and society.\nAt the 2004 International Congress in Vienna\, the 2\,000 participants in attendance adopted a resolution requesting that the United Nations (UN) designate a specific day to mark the importance and value of archives.\n\nIn 2005\, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared 27 October to be the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage (WDAH) during the 33rd session of its General Conference held in Paris\, France. WDAH offers an opportunity to spread awareness of the need to take urgent measures and acknowledge the importance of audiovisual documents as part of our shared heritage and memory. However\, audiovisual documents are only a relatively small part of our documentary heritage that deserves international attention.\n\nIt was decided at the 2007 ICA Annual General Meeting that 9 June would be celebrated as International Archives Day (IAD). This date was\nselected to commemorate the day in 1948 on which ICA was created under the auspices of UNESCO.\n\nOne year later\, the first International Archives Day celebrations were staged to coincide with the 60th Anniversary of ICA. However\, it was not until 2019 that the ICA expanded the event to extend over an entire week.\n\nArchives and Records Management in the PHilipines\nThe University of the Philippines has offered courses on General Palaeography and Archives Administration since 1954. More and more archives courses were offered over the succeeding years such that archives and records management became a study track in our BLIS and MLIS programmes. In 2021\, the Master in Archives and Records Management (MARM) program was instituted as the first and only graduate program on recordkeeping in the Philippines.\n\nExplore the wealth of knowledge you can unlock in our MARM programme in this sneak peak of the lectures on archival storage from our ARM 221 Digital Preservation course in celebration of #IAW2024 #cyberarchives #Ciberarchivos. The online lecture will be held on Friday\, June 7th from 12:00nn to 1:30pm GMT+8.\n\nAre you ready for class?
