SUMMARY:2024 SLIS Summer Institute
DESCRIPTION:You are cordially invited to attend the 2024 SLIS Institute on Information Organisation for Archives and Libraries on 18-20 June 2024 at the UP SOLAIR\, Diliman\, Quezon City.\n\nNew mechanisms for representing information relationships have become available in today’s digital environments. This marks a shift from hierarchical structures to semantic relationships documented through Linked Open Data. Linked data enables the documentation of information content and context through the use of technologies such as Resource Description Framework and Web Ontology Language. By interlinking databases\, linked open data facilitates resource discovery to a wider audience\, opening up the collections of archives and libraries to more users.\n\nThe 2024 SLIS Summer Institute will introduce the new ICA Records in Contexts (RiC) standard for archival description\, which formally replaced and consolidated the old ISAD(G)\, ISAAR-CPF\, ISDF\, and ISDIAH last November 2023\, as well as the IFLA Library Reference Model for expressing bibliographic description through the unification of FRBR\, FRAD\, and FRSAD.\n\nBy the end of the program\, participants should be able to:\n\n1) Understand core concepts in semantics.\n2) Understand the entities of RiC-CM and IFLA LRM.\n3) Create semantic descriptions for RiC-CM and IFLA LRM using Web Ontology Language (OWL) and the Resource Description Framework (RDF).\n\nThe Summer Institute is open to everyone. PRC-registered librarians may earn up to 21 CPD points. Participants may also request letters of invitation through cpe@slis.upd.edu.ph.\n\nRegister online at https://librarybayanihan.helixpay.ph/ or in person for cash payments at the SLIS office in UP SOLAIR Room 2.\n\nSource: UPSLIS Facebook

SUMMARY:NORTHERN LUZON TEXTILES IN THE DRESDEN ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM: OVERVIEW\, BRIEF HISTORY AND PROSPECTS
DESCRIPTION:CORDITEX TEXTILE TALKS\nNORTHERN LUZON TEXTILES IN THE DRESDEN ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM: OVERVIEW\, BRIEF HISTORY AND PROSPECTS\n\nFrau Petra Martin\nCurator\, Southeast Asian Collections\nDresden Ethnographic Museum\, Germany\n\nJune 19\, 2024 (Wednesday)\n10:00-11:30 am via Zoom\n\nCORDITEX is very honored and pleased to have Frau Petra Martin\, Curator of the Southeast Asian Collections in the Dresden Ethnographic Museum in Germany. She will talk about the Luzon textiles from the Philippine Collection in their museum.\nThe Museum für Völkerkunde Dresden is the repository of cultural artefacts from the Philippines\, including artifacts from northern Luzon. Alongside other cultural artifacts\, the textiles as a subject group is one of the larger items in terms of numbers. Although this textile collection is not the largest of its kind in Germany\, it is of particular importance due to its early acquisition between 1860 and 1896 by early German travelers on the Cordillera. Photographs\, which are also relevant for contextualizing the textiles\, were taken in parallel to the collection of objects. The webinar will provide a brief overview of the textile collection\, its acquisition history and the current status of its scientific processing. The discussion will also focus on whether the Dresden collection has potential for future joint research projects.\n\nPetra Martin has worked as curator of the Southeast Asia collections at the Museum for Ethnography Dresden since 1983 and as curator of all Asia collections since 2015. She studied ethnography\, history and Southeast Asian studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Her research focuses on material culture\, provenance research\, collection and museums history. She has curated several exhibitions and published on museum collections\, worked as a researcher and consultant on numerous projects.\n\nTo join the webinar\, click the Zoom registration below:\nhttps://up-edu.zoom.us/…/regi…/WN_L6v03GcLQ3aqqpQaVbi4ng\n\nSource: CordiTex “Cordillera Textiles Research Project” Facebook
