DESCRIPTION:The UP CIDS Program on Social and Political Change (PSPC) is organizing a roundtable\, “The Philippine Local Government Election Dataset Project: Electoral Competition and Local Fiscal Governance\,” on 31 July 2024\, 9:30 am – 12 noon\, UP CIDS\, Ang Bahay ng Alumni\, UP Diliman\, QC. The roundtable is free and open to the public\, but participants are encouraged to pre-register below. Seating is first-come\, first-served. \nSIGN UP HERE TO ATTEND\nAbout\nThe Philippine Local Government and Election Dataset Project endeavors to gather a comprehensive dataset encompassing the intricate elements of local governance in the Philippines from 1992 to 2022. It covers detailed electoral competition (candidates and winners) and LGU finances\, which are particularly relevant to the upcoming 2025 elections. The roundtable seeks to:\n\nIntroduce\, and get feedback on\, the Philippine Local Government and Election Dataset Project\, its scope\, design\, and goals.\n\nDiscuss the significance of granular local government and election data for policy making\, research\, and civic engagement.\n\nExplore potential applications of the datasets for enhancing governance\, promoting transparency\, and empowering voters.\n\nIdentify challenges associated with data collection\, standardization\, and the creation of user-friendly platforms.\n\nView backgrounder and concept note (PDF).\n\nSpeakers\nRogelio Alicor L. Averia\, Jr. is National Chairperson\, National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections\, and President\, Philippine Computer Emergency Response Team.\n\nChristopher Mantillas\, PhD is Associate Professor and Associate Dean at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines\, where he teachers political science and international studies.\n\nDanilo A.
