In this week’s episode\, we will examine the current state of breast cancer epidemiology in the Philippines\, highlighting key statistics\, risk factors\, and trends. We will also discuss the impact of cultural\, socioeconomic\, and environmental factors on breast cancer incidence and mortality rates. In addition\, we will explore the disparities in access to healthcare services and the challenges faced by Filipino women in obtaining timely diagnosis and treatment.\n\nPrevention strategies will be our central focus as we talk about lifestyle modifications\, such as healthy diet\, regular physical activity\, and maintaining a healthy weight\, that can reduce the risk of breast cancer. We will also discuss the role of hormonal factors and genetic predisposition in breast cancer development\, emphasizing the importance of risk assessment and early intervention.\n\nEarly detection is crucial for improving breast cancer outcomes. We will discuss the significance of breast self-examination\, clinical breast examination\, and mammographic screening in identifying breast cancer at an early stage. We will try to address common misconceptions and challenges associated with screening programs in the Philippines and provide guidance on best practices for early detection.\n\nIn terms of the latest advancements in breast cancer treatment\, we will also discuss surgical options\, including lumpectomy and mastectomy\, as well as adjuvant therapies such as chemotherapy\, radiation therapy\, and targeted therapies. We will also explore the role of palliative care in managing breast cancer symptoms and improving quality of life for patients.\n\nOur main presenter is Dr. Shiela S. Macalindong\, who is an active consultant from the Department of Surgery\, UP – Philippine General Hospital. Our reactor is Ms. Elizabeth Siguion-Reyna\, who serves as the Director for Creatives at TVUP and will share the patient perspective.\n\nJoin us in gaining a deeper understanding of breast cancer in the Philippines and the critical role that each of us can play in prevention\, early detection\, and effective treatment.
