This chronic inflammatory condition often initiates its symptomatic journey in the formative years\, yet its diagnosis remains subject to a significant and often debilitating delay. This delay\, which averages several years\, is a critical issue that compromises not only the physical well-being of young Filipinos but also their psychological and social development\, which leads to chronic pelvic pain\, dysmenorrhea\, anxiety\, and school absenteeism. The symptoms in adolescents can be atypical\, further complicating the diagnostic process and contributing to the normalization of severe menstrual pain as a standard part of maturation. It is a misconception that endometriosis is solely an adult ailment\, and this persistent myth hinders early intervention.\n\nIn this week’s episode\, we will focus on the unique clinical presentations of adolescent endometriosis. It is characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterine cavity and often manifests as clear vesicles and red lesions rather than the “powder-burn” lesions typically seen in adults. We will discuss the nuances of non-invasive diagnostic modalities (e.g.\, advanced ultrasonography) and review the latest evidence-based treatment protocols.\n\nWe aim to empower our audience with the updated insights and practical tools necessary for a more proactive and holistic approach to care. We will emphasize the importance of a high index of suspicion\, the multidisciplinary management of pain\, and the vital role of each healthcare professional: from initial patient consultation and symptom recognition to therapeutic support and patient education.\n\nOur main presenter is Dr. Toni Andrea Marie D. Viloria\, who is a pediatric gynecologist at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center and also an active consultant at the Asian Hospital and Medical Center. She is also a faculty member of the UP-PGH Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Society of the Philippines and the Philippine Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our reactor is Dr. Rodelle Joy G.
