SUMMARY:UP Vargas Museum Family Day
DESCRIPTION:Family Day at the UP Vargas Museum happens this Saturday!\n\nRegister to join\, bit.ly/UPVMFamilyDay.\n\nThe UP Vargas Museum invites families with children aged 6 to 10 years old to join us for a Family Day event on Saturday\, 9 August 2025\, from 9:30 AM to 12 NN. Family Day at the Vargas Museum will bring children closer to nature with activities including gardening and zine-making. Teacher and illustrator Patti Ramos will join us during the art activity sessions.\n\nWe encourage everyone to wear comfortable clothing and to bring their tumblers or water bottles.\n\nThe UP Vargas Museum Family Day is the culminating activity for our “Art as Pedagogy: Neighborhoods and shared resources” project. “Art as Pedagogy: Neighborhoods and shared resources” is part of the UP Diliman Arts and Culture Festival 2025. Aligned with this year’s theme\, “Kalahok sa Nagbabagong Kalikasan\,” the project aims to develop expanded pedagogical materials that weave art practices\, sustainability\, and the museum’s social practice project\, which is our ongoing Gardens and Homesteads initiative. It positions art institutions like the museum as a site for gathering and sharing. It also foregrounds education as the core thrust of the Vargas Museum alongside curation and research.\n\n“Art as Pedagogy: Neighborhoods and shared resources” is part of the Arts and Culture Festival organized by the UP Diliman Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (UP Diliman OICA). It is an umbrella project for the second phase of the Southeast Asia Neighborhoods Network (SEANNET) for its Manila case study.\n\nSource: UP Vargas Museum Facebook

SUMMARY:Finding Nellie: Documenting Local History
DESCRIPTION:Finding Nellie: Documenting Local History follows archaeologist Ellie De Castro’s two-year search to uncover a 71-year old mystery behind Nellie E. Brown Elementary School\, a public school in Olongapo City. What began as a simple question became a transpacific historical investigation spanning public and private archives\, cemeteries\, military records\, oral histories\, and community memories in the Philippines and abroad.\n\nSeptember 4 will mark the film’s first public screening\, followed by a Q&A session with the director and project team. A reception will be held before and after the film premiere at the Ishmael Bernal Gallery\, where an exhibit curated by the Finding Nellie Team will also be on display.\n\nFor those unable to attend the premiere\, the UP Film Institute will continue to host the exhibit at the Ishmael Bernal Gallery and screen the film at Cine Adarna until September 6\, 2025. This event is supported by the UP Diliman Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts and the Department of Philosophy of the UP Diliman College of Social Sciences and Philosophy.\n\nThe documentary film includes a posthumous appearance by the late Prof. Leonardo De Castro of the UP Department of Philosophy and alumnus of Nellie E. Brown Elementary School.\n\nSource: Finding Nellie Facebook Events page

This pioneering initiative addresses a critical gap in reproductive and sexual well-being\, moving beyond conventional obstetrics and gynecology to encompass a comprehensive range of clinical services. The clinic’s mission is founded on evidence-based protocols and a multidisciplinary approach\, ensuring that patient care is not only medically sound but also sensitive to the multifaceted needs of individuals and couples. It will serve as a beacon for advancing local clinical practice and public health education\, offering specialized diagnostic capabilities\, counseling services\, and therapeutic interventions for a wide spectrum of sexual health concerns. This includes\, but is not limited to\, the prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections\, fertility preservation\, and hormonal health\, all delivered within a framework of compassionate\, patient-centered care.\n\nIn this week’s episode\, we will bridge the knowledge gap and foster interdisciplinary collaboration by sharing invaluable insights into the clinic’s operational framework\, its epidemiological rationale\, and the practical application of its unique service offerings. We will also aim to demystify the field of sexual health and provide a clear understanding of the accessible\, confidential\, and comprehensive care that is now available.\n\nOur main speaker is Dr. Sherri Ann L. Suplido\, who is the Chief of the Division of Sexual Health at the UP-PGH Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our reactor is Dr. Angela G. Sison-Aguilar\, who holds the rank of Professor 3 at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the UP College of Medicine and Philippine General Hospital. She is also a Board Member of the Asia Oceania Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (2023-2025) and the Chair of SIG Endometriosis of the Asia Pacific Initiative for Reproduction (2025-2027). She also served as President of the Philippine Society for Reproductive Medicine (2021).\n\nJoin us in elevating the standard of sexual health services and contributing to a more informed\, healthier community.\n\nAnd together\, we can stop preventable deaths!
