SUMMARY:Archival Storage in Digital Preservation
DESCRIPTION:Happy International Archives Week!\n\nBackground\n(https://www.ica.org/…/about-international-archives-week/)\n\nArchives and archivists play an important role in accountability\, transparency\, democracy\, heritage\, memory and society.\nAt the 2004 International Congress in Vienna\, the 2\,000 participants in attendance adopted a resolution requesting that the United Nations (UN) designate a specific day to mark the importance and value of archives.\n\nIn 2005\, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared 27 October to be the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage (WDAH) during the 33rd session of its General Conference held in Paris\, France. WDAH offers an opportunity to spread awareness of the need to take urgent measures and acknowledge the importance of audiovisual documents as part of our shared heritage and memory. However\, audiovisual documents are only a relatively small part of our documentary heritage that deserves international attention.\n\nIt was decided at the 2007 ICA Annual General Meeting that 9 June would be celebrated as International Archives Day (IAD). This date was\nselected to commemorate the day in 1948 on which ICA was created under the auspices of UNESCO.\n\nOne year later\, the first International Archives Day celebrations were staged to coincide with the 60th Anniversary of ICA. However\, it was not until 2019 that the ICA expanded the event to extend over an entire week.\n\nArchives and Records Management in the PHilipines\nThe University of the Philippines has offered courses on General Palaeography and Archives Administration since 1954. More and more archives courses were offered over the succeeding years such that archives and records management became a study track in our BLIS and MLIS programmes. In 2021\, the Master in Archives and Records Management (MARM) program was instituted as the first and only graduate program on recordkeeping in the Philippines.\n\nExplore the wealth of knowledge you can unlock in our MARM programme in this sneak peak of the lectures on archival storage from our ARM 221 Digital Preservation course in celebration of #IAW2024 #cyberarchives #Ciberarchivos. The online lecture will be held on Friday\, June 7th from 12:00nn to 1:30pm GMT+8.\n\nAre you ready for class? We will discuss the intricate dance between maternal factors like nutrition\, stress\, and environmental exposures\, and their influence on the developing fetus.\n\nIn this webinar\, we will equip you with a deeper understanding of epigenetics\, the process by which modifiable gene expression patterns established in utero can impact disease susceptibility later in life. We will identify the critical windows of development\, those sensitive periods where interventions can have the most profound impact on a child’s future health. By the end of the episode\, the audience should have gained valuable insights into the importance of nutritional programming\, learning how to optimize maternal diet for fetal development and long-term health outcomes. Finally\, we will explore the often-overlooked role of environmental exposures\, helping you understand how toxins and pollutants can influence fetal programming.\n\nOur main presenter is Dr. Valerie T. Guinto\, who is currently the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology\, Asian Hospital and Medical Center. She also served as Past President of the Philippine Society of Maternal and Fetal Medicine. Our reactor is Dr. Maria Esterlita V. Uy\, who serves as the Director of the Institute of Child Health and Human Development at the UP Manila – National Institutes of Health.\n\nJoin us as we explore the latest research on fetal programming and its implications for clinical practice. Learn how you can empower your patients to optimize the health of future generations\, right from the very beginning.\n\nTogether\, let us learn about fetal programming and its potential to revolutionize healthcare for generations to come!
