Despite their indispensable contributions\, the profound impact of their work may at times go unnoticed\, and their own well-being remains a vital yet overlooked aspect of the healthcare landscape. The purpose of this webinar is to initiate a global conversation that unites healthcare professionals\, policymakers\, and the public in exploring the challenges faced by nurses and devising strategies for fostering a more supportive and nurturing environment.\n\nOur distinguished panel of speakers will include Dr. Amelia Latu Afuhaamango Tuipulotu\, who is the Chief Nursing Officer of the WHO; Dr. Stacy Blythe from the Faculty of Nursing\, Midwifery\, Health at the University of Technology Sydney\, a WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing\, Midwifery\, and Health Development; and Ms. Maria Cecilia Punzalan\, who is the PGH Deputy Director for Nursing and is an Affiliate Faculty of the UP College of Nursing\, a WHO Collaborating Centre for Leadership in Nursing Development. They will discuss the various facets of nursing\, encompassing the emotional and physical toll of the profession\, the influence of workplace conditions on mental health\, and the imperative for gender-sensitive policies within healthcare systems. Furthermore\, the discussion will delve into the intersectionality of gender and nursing\, recognizing and addressing the unique challenges experienced by female nurses worldwide.\n\nThis collaboration with the WHO-WPRO ensures an international perspective\, facilitating the sharing of diverse insights and experiences. Together\, we aim to create a world where nurses are not only acknowledged but genuinely cared for. Join us in this impactful event as we celebrate International Women’s Day by focusing on those who tirelessly contribute to the health and well-being of communities worldwide.

DESCRIPTION:In celebration of International Women’s Month\, the UP Institute of Human Rights (UP IHR) is organizing a public forum titled “Strengthening Justice: Assessing and Advancing Anti-Rape Laws in the Philippines.” It will be held on 08 March 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\, at the 1st Floor Conference Room\, Bocobo Hall\, UP Law Center\, UP Diliman\, Quezon City.\n\nJoin us in assessing the nuances in the implementation of R.A. 11648\, otherwise known as “The Stronger Protection Against Rape and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Act of 2022”\, especially at the local and barangay levels. Additionally\, the forum will offer a platform for a comprehensive discourse among stakeholders\, aiming to delve into the factors contributing to the high incidence of rape cases despite these existing laws. This event will feature several experts who will explore the evolution and impact of the “Stronger Protection Against Rape and Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Act of 2022” on the “Anti-Rape Law of 1997”\, considering potential amendments\, proactive prevention strategies\, gender-specific incidences\, inter-agency collaborations\, and current law enforcement measures.\n\nFor those who want to attend the forum\, please register through this link: https://uplaw.ph/2024ihrforumonantirapelaws.\n\nSource: University of the Philippines College of Law Facebook

SUMMARY:Matereality
DESCRIPTION:HAPPENING THIS MARCH AT PAROLA: Matereality 💗\n\nThe exhibition’s title\, Matereality\, comprises three words: mater\, reality\, and materiality. This play on words encapsulates the curator’s intention to shake the frame that defines women’s lives\, particularly that of mothers\, by gathering and presenting diverse visual languages created by women artists. The exhibition was first held at Artinformal in Greenhills in April 2022. This exhibition marks its second iteration\, which brings together some of the artists from the previous edition along with new ones. In the proposal\, the curator Annie Pacaña wrote\, “[the second iteration] tackles themes of work-life-art balance/counterbalance/imbalance that artists who are mothers experience daily.” The theme brings to mind our inclination to control time to improve our quality of life.\n\n______\n\nMatereality opens this March 8\, 2024\, at the Multipurpose Hall of the UP Fine Arts Gallery.\n\nMarch 8 | 5 PM | Opening reception\nMarch 8 | 7 PM | Outdoor projection\n\nFREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC\n\nWalk-in guests are warmly welcome from Tuesdays to Saturdays\, 9 AM – 4 PM. SUMMARY:UNDER THE RUBBLE : PALESTINE AND THE CRISIS OF ACADEMIC FREEDOM
DESCRIPTION:This is an online webinar sponsored by the Network in Defense of Historical Truth and Academic Freedom\, the UP Office of the Faculty Regent (OFR)\, and the UP Center for International Studies (UPCIS). It will be livestreamed on March 7 (Thursday)\, 10am-12 (Philippine Time) on the UPCIS Facebook page.\n\nThe Network in Defense of Historical Truth and Academic Freedom was formed by nine academics based in the Philippines and abroad upon the election of the son of the former dictator\, Ferdinand Marcos\, as president of the Philippines in 2022. We wish to discuss the challenges to academic expression that scholars of Palestine and scholars in support of Palestine have long faced—and that are only becoming more urgent every day. We believe it is important to illuminate this issue for scholars in Asia and especially in Southeast Asia.\nThis webinar will bring together speakers and discussants from various parts of the world to share their experiences of restrictions on their freedom as members of the academic community to discuss\, investigate\, and act on the terrors ongoing in Palestine. We believe academics and students from the Philippines would benefit from being better informed about the history of Palestine and how academics in other countries have intervened. We aim for a lively informal discussion among speakers\, discussants\, and participants that will impress upon everyone the importance of academic freedom globally and in our respective countries. Presenters will be speaking informally and from their personal viewpoints—a space less and less afforded to them in their academic institutions. We hope to foster continuing dialogue and solidarity on the issues facing Palestine and academic freedom across our various academic communities.\n\nWebinar Speakers and Discussants\n\nNEFERTI X. M. TADIAR is Professor of Women’s\, Gender\, and Sexuality Studies at Barnard College\, Columbia University. She is the author of Things Fall Away: Philippine Historical Experience and the Makings of Globalization (2009); Fantasy-Production: Sexual Economies and Other Philippine Consequences for the New World Order (2004); Life-Times of Becoming Human (2022); and most recently\, Remaindered Life (2022). She is founding coordinating committee member of Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine–Columbia\, Barnard\, Teachers College (FSJP-CBT) and steering committee member of Faculty for Justice in Palestine (FJP) National Network.\n\nSYED FARID ALATAS is Professor of Sociology at the National University of Singapore. He headed the Department of Malay Studies at NUS from 2007 till 2013. He lectured at the University of Malaya in the Department of Southeast Asian Studies prior to joining NUS. Prof. Alatas has authored numerous books and articles\, including Ibn Khaldun (Oxford University Press\, 2013); Applying Ibn Khaldun: The Recovery of a Lost Tradition in Sociology (Routledge\, 2014)\, and (with Vineeta Sinha) Sociological Theory Beyond the Canon (Palgrave\, 2017). His areas of interest are the sociology of Islam\, social theory\, religion and reform\, intra- and inter-religious dialogue\, and the study of Eurocentrism.\n\nANABELLE RAGSAG is from Mindanao\, Philippines\, and is currently based in Ohron:Wakon\, which in Kanienʼkéha (Mohawk) means ravine\, and is also known as Hamilton\, Ontario where she is a community builder\, sessional lecturer\, and doctoral student at McMaster University since 2021. She is a Stephen Lewis Social Policy PhD Fellow and Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship resident. As a Convener of Student Caucuses at the School of Social Work\, she co-convened a pan-Canadian Social Work students\, academics\, and practitioners’ initiative to express solidarity with Palestinian human rights (bit.ly/SocialWorkersforPalestine).\n\nFRANCEZCA KWE is a fiction writer and assistant professor of creative writing at the University of the Philippines Diliman. She is also a unionist and secretary general of the All UP Academic Employees Union Diliman chapter–a militant\, progressive\, and nationalist union representing UP Diliman’s faculty and research\, extension\, and professional staff (REPS). SUMMARY:LULAN\, ULILA\, LIHAM\, ALAGA\, NAMAN
DESCRIPTION:THIS MARCH AT PAROLA: LULAN\, ULILA\, LIHAM\, ALAGA\, NAMAN\n\nTwo millennia ago\, the first sator square was discovered in the ruins of Pompeii\, among pumice and volcanic ash. Since then\, many other excavations revealed these same Latin words—SATOR\, AREPO\, TENET\, OPERA\, ROTAS—engraved on doorknobs and wall fragments\, etched on boxes\, and even skulls. From the debates\, we learn that perhaps the cryptogram had magical or incantatory properties\, that it functioned as a mystical lock. \n\nLikewise\, LULAN\, ULILA\, LIHAM\, ALAGA\, NAMAN mark our claims to home. In this collaborative project\, each artist receives a sator-type square based on keywords that they use to personally represent the locale of their birth\, their dwelling\, and their artistic practice (while suppressing specific information). Released\, our creations move porously between text (the grid) and art (the visual forms). We unlock place and memory in this manner: gathering letters to unleash images\, meeting in symbol to step out into the light of day.\n\n______\n\nLULAN\, ULILA\, LIHAM\, ALAGA\, NAMAN opens this March 7\, 2024 at Gallery One of the UP Fine Arts Gallery.\n\nMarch 7 | 2 PM | Artist Talk\nMarch 7 | 4 PM | Exhibit Opening\n\nFREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC\n\nWalk-in guests are warmly welcome from Tuesdays to Saturdays\, 9 AM – 4 PM.
