CECILIA D. ALINEA\nChief\, Division of General Pediatrics\nVice Chair for Academics\nUP – PGH Department of Pediatrics\n\nReactor:\nDR. BENJAMIN P. SABLAN\, JR.\nChief\, Division of Ambulatory Pediatrics\nUP – PGH Department of Pediatrics\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #269\nJanuary 16\, 2025 (Friday)\, 12:00 noon\nMag-Screen Para Ma-Prevent\, Prepare\, at Protect ang Ating Mga Bata\n\nThe landscape of pediatric healthcare in the Philippines is currently undergoing a transformative shift by moving away from a traditional reactive model toward a comprehensive\, proactive paradigm centered on longitudinal wellness and early intervention. As we navigate the complexities of 2026\, the operationalization of Universal Health Care and the integration of the First 1\,000 Days Law have necessitated a more rigorous\, evidence-based approach to pediatric clinical surveillance.\n\nAnticipatory guidance is no longer merely a set of cursory recommendations but has evolved into a sophisticated framework of clinical counseling designed to mitigate developmental\, nutritional\, and behavioral morbidities before they manifest clinically. In this week’s episode\, our distinguished panel of speakers will discuss the latest strategies in neurodevelopmental monitoring and nutritional security\, particularly in the context of addressing the national challenge of childhood stunting and the evolving epidemiological profile of vaccine-preventable diseases. We will also try to address the significant technological and administrative advancements in pediatric screening. We will explore the expanded newborn screening (ENBS) ecosystem\, which now encompasses a broader spectrum of metabolic and genetic disorders\, and examine the recently updated Department of Health and Department of Education protocols for school-based health assessments. These updates include the integration of universal mental health and psychosocial screenings\, recognizing that psychological well-being is intrinsically linked to physiological health.\n\nOur main speaker is Dr. Cecilia D. Alinea\, who is the Chief of the Division of General Pediatrics and Vice Chair for Academics at the UP – PGH Department of Pediatrics. Our reactor is Dr. Benjamin P. Sablan\, Jr.\, who is the Chief of the Division of Ambulatory Pediatrics at the UP – PGH Department of Pediatrics.\n\nJoin us as we learn how to contribute to the collective goal of safeguarding the health of the Filipino child. Together\, we can stop preventable deaths!

DANS\nPediatrician and Clinical Epidemiologist\nInstitute of Clinical Epidemiologist\, National Institutes of Health\nUniversity of the Philippines Manila\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #268\nJanuary 9\, 2025 (Friday)\, 12:00 noon\nMalusog na Sanggol! Universal Healthcare Upstream Thinking in Pediatric Care\n\nIn the rapidly evolving landscape of the Philippine healthcare system\, the arrival of 2026 marks a pivotal juncture for the operationalization of Universal Health Care. As we navigate the complexities of the UHC law\, the paradigm of pediatric health is undergoing a fundamental transformation\, shifting from a hospital-centric model toward a robust\, longitudinal framework of ambulatory care. This transition necessitates an interdisciplinary approach that aligns clinical excellence with systemic health equity. We are pleased to invite you to an executive-level webinar designed to bridge the gap between policy mandates and frontline clinical practice. This session will feature a distinguished panel of pediatricians who will provide critical updates on the current state of pediatric ambulatory care and the strategic integration of primary care provider networks within the Filipino community.\n\nIn our first episode for 2026\, we will focus on the clinical and administrative evolutions that define our current era of health service delivery. We will elucidate the latest clinical practice guidelines for prevalent morbidities\, such as pediatric community-acquired pneumonia and the 2026 “Chikiting Ligtas” supplemental immunization activities aimed at mitigating epidemiological surges in measles and rubella. We will also discuss pharmacological stewardship and the role of preventative diagnostics in early-stage disease detection\, particularly within the first 1\,000 days of a child’s life\, which is a critical window for addressing the national challenge of childhood stunting. Beyond clinical protocols\, we will also try to look at the 2026 PhilHealth benefit expansions and the “Zero Balance Billing” directives that have redefined financial risk protection for the Filipino family.\n\nOur main speaker is the Chairperson of the UP-PGH Department of Pediatrics\, Dr. Edilberto B. Garcia\, Jr. Our reactor is Dr. Leonila F. Dans\, who is a pediatrician and clinical epidemiologist from the UP-NIH Institute of Clinical Epidemiology.\n\nJoin us to learn how to ensure that patients transition seamlessly from initial contact to specialized care without the burden of out-of-pocket expenses. Together\, we can stop preventable deaths.

SUMMARY:Notes for Tomorrow Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Notes for Tomorrow\nIn collaboration with Independent Curators International (ICI)\n\n16 December 2025 to 07 March 2026\nUP Vargas Museum 1/F Galleries\nExhibition preview on 16 December 2025\, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM\nat the UP Vargas Museum\, West Wing Gallery\n\n‘Notes for Tomorrow’ features artworks from around the world brought together in 2020 to reflect on a new global reality ushered in by the COVID-19 pandemic. Coming out of a moment where collective crisis had to be managed through collective care\, Independent Curators International (ICI) turned to 30 curators from 25 countries to consider the issues that have come to the fore in the pandemic’s aftermath\, asking each of them to share one artwork that they believe is vital to be seen today.\n\nThe UP Vargas Museum hosts the exhibition’s first iteration in Southeast Asia\, opening on 16 December 2025\, bringing together works across various geographies\, narratives\, and disciplines that stray from the colonial canon. The selected artists present works that question monumentality and seek the wisdom of localities. In this necessary moment of cultural transition\, each work acts as a source of inspiration from the recent past toward new futures. Rather than proposing a single path forward\, the artworks in Notes for Tomorrow present a network of overlapping solutions.\n\n___\n\nArtists of ‘Notes for Tomorrow’: Madiha Aijaz\, Ernesto Bautista\, Maeve Brennan\, Vajiko Chachkhiani\, Luke Luokun Cheng\, A Liberated Library for Education\, Inspiration\, and Action\, Nothando Chiwanga\, Shezad Dawood\, Demian DinéYazhi’\, Cao Guimarães\, Ilana Harris-Babou\, Rei Hayama\, Amrita Hepi\, INVASORIX\, Tamás Kaszás\, Ali Kazma\, David Lozano\, Mona Marzouk\, Joiri Minaya\, Peter Morin\, Omehen\, Daniela Ortiz\, Kristina Kay Robinson\, Luiz Roque\, Mark Salvatus\, Ibrahima Thiam\, u/n multitude\, Wayne Kaumualii Westlake\, and Yan Shi\n\nSource: UP Vargas Museum Facebook

We will discuss contemporary referral guidelines and recognize the procedural indications and contraindications for robot-assisted surgery\, which are fundamental to optimized patient triaging and preoperative counseling. In addition\, we will address the inherent challenges specific to the Philippine context\, notably the complexities of cost-effectiveness\, the rigorous learning curve necessary for surgical teams\, and the pivotal need for standardized regulatory frameworks to govern this advanced technology.\n\nOur main speaker is the Training Officer of the General Surgery program of the UP-PGH Department of Surgery\, Dr. Anthony L. Dofitas. Our reactor is Dr. Rodney B.
