JOSE\nHead\, Office of Expanded Education and Training\nUP Philippine General Hospital\n\n———————————————————–\n\nMay 12\, 2023 (Friday) 12nn\nWebinar #145\n“Tatay\, Nanay\, Paano ka Mag-Aruga?” : Positive Parenting Today\n\nWhile the COVID-19 pandemic has been declared by WHO as “over”\, the emotional and behavioral challenges may be here with us to stay for some time. Childhood and adolescence are periods of great emotional vulnerability even under “normal circumstances”. When COVID-19 hit\, disruption was intense and acute at the level of the household\, impacting negatively on family life. The impact of lockdowns\, sickness\, and even death could lead to post-traumatic stress and create long drawn conditions of stress and anxiety that still impact on youth and children.\n\nParents have had to juggle their time between work and helping their children do school work at home. This proved to be particularly difficult for families without the space or means to learn online. At the same time\, parents are expected to be a stabilizing force in the family despite the hardships and stressors in their environment. To this day\, parents continue new challenges in supporting their children’s mental wellbeing\, as well as becoming particularly at risk for experiencing mental health difficulties themselves.\n\nIn this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS entitled : “Tatay\, Nanay\, Paano ka Mag-Aruga?”: Positive Parenting Today\, we take a closer look at parenting in a world where children experience extreme stress while services for psychosocial care are scarce. Our main presenter is Dr. Stella Guerrero-Manalo\, who is the head of the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics of the PGH Department of Pediatrics. Our reactor is Dr. Marissa Lukban\, who is the chair of the PGH Department of Pediatrics. Finally\, the Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Stella Marie L. Jose\, who is the PGH Head of the Office of Expanded Education and Training.\n\nJoin us as we learn about positive parenting techniques and the necessary skills to help children improve on their mental health and well-being. Together\, we can STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS!

SUMMARY:"Plural Entanglements: Philippine Studies" Book launch
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend the book launch of Plural Entanglements: Philippine Studies on May 10\, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the 2nd floor lobby\, UP CSSP\, Diliman\, Quezon City.\n\nThis event will also be available via live streaming on the Ateneo University Press Facebook page. Kindly 𝗥𝗦𝗩𝗣 𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟴\, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 at go.ateneo.net/PEregistration.\n\nEdited by Dada Docot\, Stephen B. Acabado\, and Clement C. Camposano\, Plural Entanglements emphasizes the diverse foundations of scholarship and accentuates the need for scholars to look beyond Manila\, figuratively and quite literally. This approach is a necessary corrective to the colonial era–influenced discourse of Philippine culture and history\, which is currently dominant and actively propagated through various iterations of the school curricula and even through popular culture. This dominant discourse continues to marginalize and impoverish communities across the country—rural\, urban\, and Indigenous.\n\nPre-order a copy of the book at go.ateneo.net/Pluralpreorder\n\nSource: University of the Philippines Visayas Facebook

SUMMARY:IMPRINTED IN THE WATER: A Solo Exhibit of NICOLEI BUENDIA GUPIT
DESCRIPTION:IMPRINTED IN THE WATER\n\nA Solo Exhibit of\nNICOLEI BUENDIA GUPIT\n\nSINING MAKILING GALLERY\nD.L. Umali Hall\, UPLB\n\nOpening on 9 May 2023\nExhibit runs until 30 June 2023\n\n————————-\n\nInspired by her surroundings in Los Baños\, Laguna\, Nicolei Buendia Gupit presents to us in her third solo show\, Imprinted in the Water\, a range of mediums and processes that highlight the impact of human activities on water resources.\n\nBy using prints of man-made objects\, Gupit highlights the ways in which we have come to rely on water resources for our own needs\, often at the expense of the environment and other human and non-human life. The wet pigment that she uses to dye her surfaces suggests the fluidity and mutability of water\, and the need for us to consider our effect on this vital resource. Its subdued palette emanates an ominous atmosphere that conveys the gloomy reality we face. Connecting this with images of marine life skeletons\, she concocts impressions of the devastating ramifications of pollution and overfishing on aquatic ecosystems. Uprooted trees hint at the destruction of natural habitats\, while flaky tin roofs allude to the consequences of climate change and natural disasters in the lives of marginalized Filipinos yearly. She also incorporates bottle-shaped resin works that carry paper money inside them—probing pieces that challenge viewers to consider the value we place on water and the attendant effects of its privatization.\n\nThrough her artworks\, Gupit challenges viewers to consider their own relationship with water and the ways in which our actions can have far-reaching consequences. She invites us to think about the imprint that we are leaving on the natural world\, and to consider how we might work to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all. Women look at their faces 34-40 times a day. Men look at their faces a bit less\, perhaps 25-30 times a day. The face\, head\, and neck play important roles in human interactions\, including during social activities. Moreover\, the face is one of the most fundamental parts of the body for self-recognition. Vision\, hearing\, smell\, eating\, and breathing are considered the primary functions of the face. People who experience facial deformities due to trauma\, tumors or congenital defects may possess a negative self-image compared to normal individuals. This trend of thinking negatively influences social activity and productivity.\n\nThe facial skeleton consists of 14 bones with different anatomic structures and embryological formations. These bones comprise the paired nasal bones\, inferior nasal conchae\, palatine bones\, maxillae\, zygomatic bones\, lacrimal bones\, and the unpaired mandible and vomers. Injury to any of these bones may impact on the adjacent bones. The surgical correction of deformities is challenging. The success of these surgeries depends on surgical skill\, but more importantly\, planning of an interdisciplinary team that includes engineers\, fine arts experts\, anesthesiologists guides the work of the surgeon. Additive manufacturing technologies have enabled the development of customized implants for craniomaxillofacial applications using biomaterials.\n\nIn this episode of STOP COVID Deaths we will take a closer look at types of craniomaxillofacial injuries\, deformities\, and tumors as well as the state of the art in management and care at the Philippines General Hospital presented by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (ORL-HNS). Our main presenter is Dr. Philip Fullante\, Head of the Craniomaxillofacial\, Plastic\, and Restorative Surgery Section\, who will be talking about surgical simulation training\, prosthetics\, and patient-specific point-of-care services. Our reactors are Dr. Maria Rina Reyes-Quintos\, Chair of the Department of ORL-HNS\, who will discuss the state-of-the-art care and management for craniomaxillofacial surgery patients and Dr. Miguel Aljibe\, Program Manager for the UP College of Medicine’s Surgical Innovation and Biotechnology Laboratory (SIBOL) Program\, who will be talking about the collaboration of the UP College of Medicine with UP College of Engineering and UP College of Fine Arts. The Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Stella Marie L. Jose\, who is the PGH Head of the Office of Expanded Education and Training.\n\nJoin us as we learn about updates on craniomaxillofacial surgery. Together\, we can STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS!
