Upon examination and testing – this maybe Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) that can remain benign\, but could also progress to severe disease like cirrhosis and liver failure.\n\nWhat causes fatty liver? Can it be prevented? How and why can it become more serious disease? Can it be managed? When should a general practitioner refer patients with abnormal liver profiles to the specialists?\n\nSome of the risk factors and co-morbidities of COVID-19\, include the linkage of NAFLD with overweight and obesity\, diabetes\, dyslipidemia – metabolic syndrome. It is estimated that as many as 1 out of 3 Filipinos could have fatty liver – so the question is: What can I do to reduce the risk of chronic and severe illness.\n\nBringing you the leading experts in gastroenterology and endocrinology- as well as the latest information globally and here in the Philippines- we will have Dr. Janus P. SUMMARY:A MEMORIAL FOR LOLA: An Expression of Self-Identity from Stitching Memories of Home
DESCRIPTION:A MEMORIAL FOR LOLA: An Expression of Self-Identity from Stitching Memories of Home\n\nA solo exhibition of BASIL MALICSI\n\nSINING MAKILING GALLERY\nDL Umali Hall\, UP Los Baños\nGallery hours: 8 AM to 6 PM\, Monday to Friday\nExhibit opens on 4 October 2022 and will run until 16 December 2022\n————————————\nExamining the labor and art of sewing as a meditative ritual that brings forth memories to memorialize loved ones\, Basil Malicsi utilizes the medium of retasos/fabric scraps through his creation of hard and soft sculpture installations.\n\nFeaturing 42 hand-stitched tapestries\, Malicsi takes us into the meditative and spellbinding ritual of sewing by using vibrant colors of yarns and threads to piece together fabric scraps from his studio as a fashion designer. Each collage tapestry was made during the two-year period of the pandemic which helped the artist maintain a healthy mental state during the quarantine period of the pandemic.\n\nEncouraging a dialogue between memorializing\, meditation and identity\, Malicsi creates a 10-ft high\, 16 ft x 16 ft area installation in the form of a labyrinth to recall his childhood memories with his home that he shared with his grandmother through the meditative ritual of sewing. The monumental structure\, along with the objects inside the labyrinth\, stands as a way of honoring his late grandmother and as a symbolic gesture that memories are bigger than our physical\, mental\, and spiritual psyche combined.\n\nInviting the viewer to understand\, visualize\, and feel every part of the space\, the artist enables the work to be tactile by encouraging the viewer to walk around and touch each of the pieces.\n\nSource: UPLB Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts Facebook

MAE DOLENDO\nHead\, Children’s Cancer Institute\nSouthern Philippines Medical Center\n\nSHALOM REA BERNALES\nChild Life Officer (VisMin)\nKythe Foundation\, Inc.\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #119\nSeptember 30\, 2022\nCHILDREN WITH CANCER AND COVID-19 \n\nCOVID- 19 has many unseen impacts on the health of our children. A very special group\, are the children with cancer who are immunocompromised and have faced severe difficulties in getting accessing treatment and support for the many needs.\n\nAccording to the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Philippines\, there are about 4\,700 new cases of childhood cancer every year. Forty percent of these cases are leukemias – a condition that is treatable and compatible with life\, provided there is early diagnosis and chemotherapy is provided consistently at regular intervals. Despite this\, each year 1\,700 children die from leukemia in our country.\n\nWhat happened to all the children with cancer during the pandemic? What has happened to groups that provide support for various needs of these children and their families? The care-givers and parent of children with cancer face many challenges in transporting children to hospitals for treatment\, caring for other children\, and simply making ends meet.\n\nAs a group that is immunocompromised\, it is of critical importance that these children are vaccinated. How are we doing with vaccination of immunocompromised children with cancer?\n\nIn this episode of STOP COVID DEATHS\, we will feature a leading expert on pediatric oncology\, who is internationally recognized for her advocacy work: Dr. Mae Dolendo – head of the Children’s Cancer Unit at the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City. On our panel will be Cebu-based Ms. Shalom Rea Bernales from the award-winning Kythe Foundation\, Inc. – one of the pioneering programs for children with cancer that started as a volunteer organization from the Ateneo University\, that is now a national organization – who will talk about the countless volunteers who have gone out of their way to make life a little easier for these children and their families. Special focus on helping these families prevent the onset of COVID-19 in their households to protect these children. The Synthesis and Closing Remarks will be delivered by Dr. Stella Marie L. Jose\, who is the Deputy Director for Health Operations of UP Philippine General Hospital.\n\nJoin us on your credible online community on Friday to learn more about the children with cancer. See you online!\n\nTogether\, we can STOP C.O.V.I.D. DEATHS!
