This pioneering initiative addresses a critical gap in reproductive and sexual well-being\, moving beyond conventional obstetrics and gynecology to encompass a comprehensive range of clinical services. The clinic’s mission is founded on evidence-based protocols and a multidisciplinary approach\, ensuring that patient care is not only medically sound but also sensitive to the multifaceted needs of individuals and couples. It will serve as a beacon for advancing local clinical practice and public health education\, offering specialized diagnostic capabilities\, counseling services\, and therapeutic interventions for a wide spectrum of sexual health concerns. This includes\, but is not limited to\, the prevention and management of sexually transmitted infections\, fertility preservation\, and hormonal health\, all delivered within a framework of compassionate\, patient-centered care.\n\nIn this week’s episode\, we will bridge the knowledge gap and foster interdisciplinary collaboration by sharing invaluable insights into the clinic’s operational framework\, its epidemiological rationale\, and the practical application of its unique service offerings. We will also aim to demystify the field of sexual health and provide a clear understanding of the accessible\, confidential\, and comprehensive care that is now available.\n\nOur main speaker is Dr. Sherri Ann L. Suplido\, who is the Chief of the Division of Sexual Health at the UP-PGH Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Our reactor is Dr. Angela G. SUMMARY:How Capitalism Affirms its Hegemony: The Imperial Mode of Living
DESCRIPTION:The UP Third World Studies Center (TWSC)\, in collaboration with the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Southeast Asia\, invites the public to a free lecture titled “How Capitalism Affirms its Hegemony: The Imperial Mode of Living” by University of Vienna Professor for International Politics Ulrich Brand.\n\nDATE: September 4\, 2025\nTIME: 10:00am to 12:00nn\nVENUE: Pilar Herrera Hall\, Palma Hall\, University of the Philippines Diliman\n\nRegister Here: https://bit.ly/TWSCBrandLecture2025\n\nLecture Abstract:\n\nIn their book Imperial Mode of Living (translated into eleven languages) and with this concept\, Ulrich Brand and Markus Wissen want to highlight the fact that capitalism implies uneven development as well as a constant and accelerating universalisation of a Western mode of production and living. The logic of liberal markets since the 19thCentury\, and especially since World War II\, has been inscribed into everyday practices that are usually unconsciously reproduced. We want to show that they are a main driver of the ecological crisis and economic and political instability. The Imperial Mode of Living implies that people’s everyday practices\, including individual and societal orientations\, as well as identities\, rely heavily on the unlimited appropriation of resources; a disproportionate claim on global and local ecosystems and sinks; and cheap labour from elsewhere. This availability of commodities is largely organised through the world market\, backed by military force and/or the asymmetric relations of forces as they have been inscribed in international institutions. Moreover\, the Imperial Mode of Living implies asymmetrical social relations along class\, gender and race within the respective countries. Here too\, it is driven by the capitalist accumulation imperative\, growth-oriented state policies and status consumption. The concrete production conditions of commodities are rendered invisible in the places where the commodities are consumed. The imperialist world order is normalized through the mode of production and living.\n\nAbout the Lecturer:\n\nUlrich Brand has been teaching and researching as Professor of International Politics at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Vienna since 2007. He has published work on sustainability transformation\, degrowth\, historical materialist policy analysis\, and critical state theory but his research is condensed in the concept of the “imperial mode of living”. He has been a member of the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung\, where he serves as an academic trustee. Among other things\, he is also a member of the Board of Austrian Foundation for International Development\, the SAB of Austrian Institute of International Politics\, the Global Working Group Beyond Development\, and the Permanent Working Group “Beyond Development” in Latin America.\n\nSource: UP Twsc Facebook

This imperative is driven by the persistent challenge of early case detection\, which remains a cornerstone of effective disease control and prevention strategies worldwide.\n\nIn this week’s episode\, we will explore the scientific underpinnings and practical applications of artificial intelligence in analyzing chest radiographs\, a process known as computer-aided detection (CAD). We will unpack how deep learning algorithms can rapidly and accurately triage individuals by identifying subtle radiological anomalies indicative of pulmonary TB\, thereby significantly augmenting the diagnostic capacity of healthcare systems\, particularly in high-burden\, resource-constrained environments. The discussion will also illuminate the integration of digital health interventions and mobile health (mHealth) platforms\, which extend the reach of screening programs into underserved communities. We will examine how these digital ecosystems facilitate real-time data collection\, enable contact tracing\, and support patient engagement through sophisticated applications and remote monitoring tools\, moving toward a more proactive and decentralized model of public health.\n\nWe will also provide a comprehensive overview of how these technological synergies are enhancing diagnostic precision by optimizing workflow efficiency for frontline practitioners and reducing the time-to-treatment initiation. We will also address the critical considerations of data privacy\, interoperability\, and the ethical implementation of AI to help ensure that these powerful tools are leveraged responsibly to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) and the World Health Organization’s (WHO) End TB Strategy targets.\n\nOur main presenter is Dr. Camilo C. Roa\, Jr.\, who is the President of the Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc.. He is also the Founding Chairman of the Philippine Coalition Against Tuberculosis and is Professor Emeritus at the University of the Philippines Manila. Our reactor is Dr. Lenora C. Fernandez\, who is a past President of the Philippine College of Chest Physicians and is the Head of the UP-PGH Stop Smoking Program. She also serves as Professor and Chief of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine at the UP College of Medicine and Philippine General Hospital. She is also the Project Leader of the DOH-sponsored project on Updates on Philippine Smoking Cessation Guidelines\, as well as a member of the WHO Guideline Development Group on Smoking Cessation.\n\nJoin us to discover how these disruptive technologies are paving the way for a future where TB is not just treated\, but systematically eradicated. Together\, we can stop preventable deaths!

SUMMARY:On Local Ecologies: Artist Roundtable on Exhibiting ‘Art and Ecology’ in / for / from a University
DESCRIPTION:Sa darating na Agosto 26\, samahan ang mga lumikha ng mga instalasyong naging bahagi ng Kalikhasan: Outdoor Art Projects on Campus Ecology sa On Local Ecologies: Artist Roundtable on Exhibiting ‘Art and Ecology’ in / for / from a University. Prop. Mark Louie Lugue\, ang co-curator ng Kalikhasan project\, bilang tagapagpadaloy ng programa.\n\n// Roundtable Abstract:\n\nIn the country\, earlier attempts at exhibiting art guided by ecological consciousness can be traced back to the 1970s\, a period that witnessed a notable growth in environmentalism. Around half a century forward\, more art exhibitions led and hosted locally have sought to tease out and underscore the ties between art and ecology. These tapped on the potential of art in surfacing the impact of humanity on the environment and in raising climate awareness. In the same vein\, institutions and other groups began to examine or further reexamined their ways of working in response to the challenges of environmental sustainability.\n\nThis roundtable finds its position within this landscape by asking: What is added when we forward art as a proposition to ecological discourses through an exhibition situated in\, for\, and/or from a university? The University is a setting that is poised to offer a compelling perspective and starting point given its potential to be a progressive site of knowledge co-production despite inherent contradictions presented by the bureaucracies and conventions it tends to maintain as an institution. This potential rests in how the institution can flesh out and engender intergenerational exchanges and collaborations amongst its diverse disciplinal grounds and communities. More specifically\, the session asks: What can the unique contours of the University of the Philippines Diliman—its institutional history\, physical environment\, communities\, legacies\, and present affairs—contribute to these ongoing conversations?\n\nDrawing from the idea of “local ecologies\,” the forum shall see the university as both a microcosm intrinsically linked with broader environmental systems\, and a distinct ecosystem in its own right. Taking this as a frame for understanding the UPD community\, the forum brings together artists Dayang Yraola\, Karl Castro\, and Isola Tong\, who recently participated in the exhibition “Kalikhasan: Outdoor Art Projects on Campus Ecology” that ran from February to June this year. It offers an opportunity to reflect on the experience of conceiving and mounting outdoor and site-specific artworks that resonate with ecological discourses within and beyond the university\, as they intersected with longstanding conversations on politics\, class\, and gender.\n—\nAng Kalikhasan ay bahagi ng UP Diliman Arts and Culture Festival 2025 (UPDACF 2025) na may temang “Kalahok sa Nagbabagong Kalikasan”.
