SUMMARY:Health UPdates Webinar #232 "Bagong Pananaw sa Pag-aaral ng Anatomiya": Innovating Medical Education
DESCRIPTION:The University of the Philippines\,\nin partnership with the UP Manila – National Institutes of Health\,\nand in cooperation with UP Philippine General Hospital and UP College of Medicine\,\nwould like to invite you to attend this webinar! \n  \nRegistration slots are limited to this HEALTH UPDATES webinar\nSo sign up NOW:\nbit.ly/HealthUpdatesWebinar232 \n  \nWebinar #232\nMarch 28\, 2025 (Friday)\, 12:00 noon\nBagong Pananaw sa Pag-aaral ng Anatomiya\nInnovating Medical Education\n\nPresenter:\nDR. FLORIDA F. TALADTAD\nAssociate Professor 2\, Department of Anatomy\nUP College of Medicine\nActive Consultant\, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology\, Jose B. Lingad Memorial General Hospital\nFellow\, Philippine Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology\, Inc.\n\nReactor:\nDR. RAFAEL C. BUNDOC\nFormer Chair\, Department of Anatomy\, UP College of Medicine\nActive Consultant\, Division of Spine Surgery\, Department of Orthopedics\,\nUP – Philippine General Hospital\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #232\nMarch 28\, 2025 (Friday)\, 12:00 noon\nBagong Pananaw sa Pag-aaral ng Anatomiya\nInnovating Medical Education\n\nIn the dynamic landscape of modern medicine\, a foundational understanding of human anatomy remains paramount. However\, traditional methods of gross anatomy instruction\, often reliant on rote memorization and cadaveric dissection\, may not always align with the evolving needs of contemporary healthcare professionals. In this week’s episode\, we will demystify complex anatomical concepts and provide practical insights that can be immediately applied in clinical practice.\n\nOur esteemed speakers\, who are seasoned anatomy professors with extensive experience in medical education\, will discuss the integration of novel technologies and pedagogical strategies that are revolutionizing the way gross anatomy is taught and learned. We will examine the implementation of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) platforms\, which provide immersive and interactive experiences\, allowing for detailed visualization and manipulation of anatomical structures. These technologies bridge the gap between abstract concepts and tangible clinical relevance\, facilitating a deeper understanding of spatial relationships and anatomical variations.\n\nIn addition\, we will explore the utilization of 3D printing in anatomical modeling\, enabling the creation of patient-specific replicas for pre-surgical planning and educational purposes. This approach fosters a more nuanced appreciation for anatomical complexity and its implications for clinical decision-making. We will also discuss the integration of problem-based learning (PBL) and case-based learning (CBL) into the curriculum\, emphasizing the application of anatomical knowledge to real-world clinical scenarios. This methodology encourages critical thinking and enhances the ability to translate anatomical understanding into effective patient care.\n\nAs we continue the celebration of National Women’s Month\, we are putting a spotlight on one of the emerging anatomy professors in the country: Dr. Florida F. Taladtad\, who is an associate professor at the Department of Anatomy of the UP College of Medicine. Our reactor is Dr. Rafael C. Bundoc\, who is a former chairperson of the Department of Anatomy at the UP College of Medicine and is an active consultant of the Division of Spine Surgery\, Department of Orthopedics\, UP – Philippine General Hospital.\n\nJoin us this week so you can be equipped with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of human anatomy with confidence and precision\, ultimately contributing to improved patient outcomes and a deeper appreciation for the human form.

SUMMARY:ANO ANG SABI SA LAPIDA? ISANG PAG-AARAL NG MGA LAPIDA SA TAGALOG REGION NOONG 1860 HANGGANG 1950
DESCRIPTION:ANO ANG SABI SA LAPIDA? ISANG PAG-AARAL NG MGA LAPIDA SA TAGALOG REGION NOONG 1860 HANGGANG 1950\n26 March 2025 | Wednesday | 1:00 PM\nPilar Herrera Hall\, Palma Hall\n\n—\nTo register for this free and public F2F lecture\, please go to bit.ly/PazLecture\n—\nTo honor Dr. Paz’s unparalleled contributions to Philippine linguistics and culture studies\, the UP Department of Linguistics launched the Consuelo J. Paz Lecture in 2019\, as a biennial lecture to be given by a distinguished scholar\, whose body of work in the field of historical linguistics\, sociolinguistics\, ethnolinguistics\, and cultural studies enriches our knowledge of language & culture and promotes Philippine languages & dialects.\nThe 4th Paz Lecture will be given by Prof. Grace Barretto-Tesoro of the UP School of Archaeology (UPSA).\n—\nABSTRACT\nAng lecture na ito ay tungkol sa aking pag-aaral sa mga lapida na matatagpuan sa loob ng mga simbahan na itinatag noong panahon ng mga Kastila. Nais kong magtapos sa pamamagitan ng pagbigay diin sa pagsakop ng mga Pilipino sa isang espasyo ng isang kolonyal na institusyon.\n—\nBIONOTE\nGrace Barretto-Tesoro is a Professor at the UP School of Archaeology (UPSA)\, where she served as Director during two terms (2017-2020 and 2021-2024). Her scholarly work focuses on mortuary practices\, status\, identity\, cosmology\, and historical archaeology. After completing her Diploma and MA in Archaeology from UP Diliman\, she earned her PhD in Archaeology from the University of Cambridge in 2007.\n\nHer doctoral research explored the agency of local populations in the Philippines\, examining how communities asserted and negotiated their identities through material culture\, particularly earthenware pottery and foreign ceramics. SUMMARY:'Cultivating Urban Resilience with Urban Agriculture'
DESCRIPTION:In 2013\, critical human geographer Chiara Tornaghi asked this question:\n\nIs access to urban land for food-growing guaranteed across the spectrum of society?\n\nIn the third Heo/Geo Lecture Series for 2025\, James Vanderberg looks into these issues. The talk will take place on vernal equinox\, the 21st of March 2025 at 5:30PM via Zoom. Titled ‘Cultivating Urban Resilience with Urban Agriculture’ the talk is co-sponsored by the Philippine Geographical Society (PGS) and the UP Department of Geography.\n\nThe liveability and safety of cities is increasingly challenged by global polycrisis\, that is\, entangled crises with synchronizing and amplifying inter-system dynamics that produce novel emergent harms which are greater than the sum of their parts. Consequently\, cities must prioritize multifunctional resilience strategies that improve their ability to cope and adapt with disruptions and transform structures and processes which limit their current or future adaptive capacities. Accordingly\, the emergence of a range of novel urban agriculture practices\, which extend beyond community gardens\, to also include building integrated rooftop greenhouses and indoor vertical plant factories are increasingly acknowledged for their cross-sector and cross-scale urban resilience benefits.\n\nAs will be discussed throughout the lecture\, innovative approaches to urban agriculture have the potential to strengthen the resilience capacities of a city’s social\, environmental\, economic\, institutional\, and infrastructural subsystems. However\, questions remain as to how to ensure such urban agriculture driven resilience strategies are implemented equitability\, take into account spatial and temporal trade-offs\, and contribute to the harmonization of societal values and ecological justice.\n\nJames Vandenberg is a 4th year Predoc in the Urban Studies Working Group\, within the Department of Geography and Regional Research Department at the University of Vienna\, Austria. After completing his BA in International Relations and Development at the University of British Colombia and the University of Amsterdam\, he completed an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters in Urban Studies which was included 4 semesters at 6 universities in Brussels\, Vienna\, Copenhagen and Madrid. His current research delves into the multifunctionality of Urban Agriculture to better understand the connection between food and resilience. This pursuit is aimed at illuminating strategies that help contribute to humanities ability to both feed the estimated 10 billion people expected to inhabit earth in 2050\, while simultaneously preparing cities to adapt to the climate change impacts of a 2-degree world.\n\nPresented by the Environment and Development Geographies (EDGE) research cluster by the UP Department of Geography\, the talk satisfies most of the Social Development Goals of United Nations but especially #11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and #15 (Life on Land).\n\nTo participate in the lecture\, please click this link: https://tinyurl.com/2p9tahr4\n\nSource: UP Department of Geography Facebook
