SUMMARY:Dulaang UP’s “Mga Anak ng Unos”
DESCRIPTION:#DUPMgaAnakNgUnos: Dalawang dula ng danas sa krisis pangklima\n\nSA GITNA NG DIGMAAN NG MGA MAHIWAGANG NILALANG LABAN SA SANGKATAUHAN\nwritten by Joshua Lim So\nDirection José Estrella\n\nThis play follows the bathalas and other mythological creatures amidst a war waged against humans for destroying the sacred earth. These are not mere moral tales. The narratives illustrate how cultural communities and indigenous peoples have historically navigated the complexities of the earth.\n\nCLIMATE IN CRAZIES\nDevised from David Finnigan’s “Scenes from the Climate Era”\nDirection Issa Manalo Lopez and Tess Jamias\n\nThis play documents the climate crisis as it exists beyond two extremes: an idealized portrayal of nature\, and a grim\, apocalyptic vision. “Climate in Crazies” is a conversation that intersects mythology and scientific data on the climate crisis we now collectively face.\n\nIBG-KAL Theater\nUniversity of the Philippines Diliman\n‼️OPENING THIS WEEK‼️\n\nMarch 28\, April 4\, 11 (7:30 PM)\nMarch 29\, April 5\, 12 (2:30 PM & 7:30 PM)\nMarch 30\, April 6\, 13 (10:30 AM & 2:30 PM)\n\n🎟️ DIRECT PURCHASE: bit.ly/MgaAnakNgUnosTickets \n🎟️ TICKET2ME: ticket2me.net/event/22217\n🎟️ TICKETMELON: ticketmelon.com/dulaang-up/mga-anak-ng-unos\n\nIn partnership with:\nGreenpeace Philippines\n\nMedia partners:\nAgimat\nMANILA BULLETIN\nNews5\nPhilippine Collegian\nPhilippine Star\nSINEGANG.ph\nWhen In Manila\n\nOrganizational partners:\nPhilippine Movement for Climate Justice\nDLSU Harlequin Theatre Guild\nMaroon FM\nProject Kalikhasan\nUP Run Club\nYouth Climate Navigators\nThe Third Space UP Diliman\nPoster Design: Pliny Del Rio\, Jada Bartolome\, Jien Santiago\, Yvette Fornal\n\nSource: Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (DUP Official Page) Facebook

We recognize that frontline healthcare workers\, often the first point of contact for patients\, play a pivotal role in identifying individuals who may benefit from these interventions. In this week’s episode\, we will attempt to address the critical need for a nuanced understanding of the physiological\, pharmacological\, and procedural aspects of fertility preservation.\n\nOur distinguished speakers are some of the leading reproductive endocrinology and infertility experts from the Philippines. They will discuss into the intricacies of ovarian reserve assessment\, including the utility of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) testing and antral follicle count (AFC) via transvaginal ultrasonography. They will elucidate the various fertility preservation techniques\, such as oocyte cryopreservation\, ovarian tissue cryopreservation\, and embryo cryopreservation\, detailing the indications\, procedures\, and potential outcomes associated with each modality. We will also explore the impact of medical conditions\, including oncologic diagnoses requiring gonadotoxic therapies\, and non-malignant conditions like endometriosis and premature ovarian insufficiency\, on female fertility. In addition\, we will discuss the ethical considerations surrounding fertility preservation\, including informed consent\, long-term storage\, and the psychosocial implications for patients.\n\nOur main speaker this week is Dr. Virgilio M. Novero\, Jr.\, who holds the position of Professor V at the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility\, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology\, UP College of Medicine. He is also the Scientific Director of the Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine and Infertility\, St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City as well as the Founding President of the Philippine Society for Fertility Preservation. Our reactor is Dr. Gladys G. Tanangonan\, who is Associate Professor III at the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility\, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology\, UP College of Medicine. She is also a Board Member of the Philippine Society for Fertility Preservation.\n\nJoin us as we foster a collaborative approach to reproductive healthcare\, ensuring that women are empowered to preserve their fertility and maintain control over their reproductive destinies.

SUMMARY:From Expat to Influencer: How Korean Migrants Are Shaping the Hallyu Phenomenon in the Philippines
DESCRIPTION:[UPKRC x VSB Brownbag Session] From Expat to Influencer: How Korean Migrants Are Shaping the Hallyu Phenomenon in the Philippines\nSpeaker: Rose Carmelle Lacuata (Department of History\, College of Liberal Arts\, De La Salle University-Manila)\n\nDate & Time: 7 April Monday 10-11:30AM\nVenue: Room 309\, Cesar E.A. Virata School of Business\, UP Diliman\n\nAbstract:\nKoreans have migrated to the Philippines for different purposes\, from education\, to jobs\, businesses and even for missionary activities. Over time\, their presence in the Philippines has also impacted the country in different ways\, especially with the continued popularity of Korean culture\, popularly known as hallyu.\n\nFrom movies\, dramas and music\, other aspects of Korean culture have slowly become more familiar to Filipinos\, also thanks to the Korean community in the country. With the popularity and accessibility of social media\, some Korean expatriates in the Philippines have started to use the platform not only to share their appreciation for Filipino culture\, but also to share Korean culture from their perspective. Soon\, these Philippine-based Korean influencers have gained a significant following and have also established their own brand.\n\nBy looking at these Korean celebrities as human brands\, the study aims to look at how their social media presence has made Korean culture more accessible and more familiar to Filipinos\, especially for those who originally only know about Korea through K-dramas and K-pop.\nThis event is on-site and open to the public.\n\nSource: UP Korea Research Center Facebook

SUMMARY:CSC Research Lecture: The Baguio Soundscape Project: A Preliminary Critical Sound Map of the City (Meamo)
DESCRIPTION:FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC\n\nThe Cordillera Studies Center is inviting everyone to a hybrid format lecture with Benjamin George P. Meamo III on 8 April 2025 (Tuesday)\, 1:30 pm onwards\, at the CSS AVR\, UP Baguio. Join us!\n\nYou may attend online via Zoom by registering through the link below:\nhttps://bit.ly/MeamoCSCLec\n\nF2F attendees also welcome! Please pre-pregister through:\nhttps://bit.ly/F2FMeamoCSCLec\n\nABSTRACT\n\nThe Baguio Soundscape Project is a preliminary critical sound map of the City of Baguio\, Philippines. Using Milena Droumeva’s (2017) three-pronged frames of reference in doing critical sound map\, the study seeks to present the soundscape of Baguio and discuss how lived experiences in an urban space can be defined through sound. Using data collected from field recordings\, photographs\, sound diaries\, and focus group discussions (FGD) with 15 participants who were either born and raised or have lived for more than six (6) months in the city\, the research identified eight (8 ) themes that constitute the Baguio soundscape.\n\nThese themes show how the city is experienced\, occupied\, and lived in through sound. The findings argue that through the frames of listening publics\, maps grammar\, and recording cultures (Droumeva 2017)\, the Baguio Soundscape Project offers a critical sound map which encourages social participation\, emancipation\, and creativity when listening into and recording our lived experiences in the city.\n\nSource: Cordillera Studies Center UP Baguio Facebook
