SUMMARY:Notes for Tomorrow Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Notes for Tomorrow\nIn collaboration with Independent Curators International (ICI)\n\n16 December 2025 to 07 March 2026\nUP Vargas Museum 1/F Galleries\nExhibition preview on 16 December 2025\, 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM\nat the UP Vargas Museum\, West Wing Gallery\n\n‘Notes for Tomorrow’ features artworks from around the world brought together in 2020 to reflect on a new global reality ushered in by the COVID-19 pandemic. Coming out of a moment where collective crisis had to be managed through collective care\, Independent Curators International (ICI) turned to 30 curators from 25 countries to consider the issues that have come to the fore in the pandemic’s aftermath\, asking each of them to share one artwork that they believe is vital to be seen today.\n\nThe UP Vargas Museum hosts the exhibition’s first iteration in Southeast Asia\, opening on 16 December 2025\, bringing together works across various geographies\, narratives\, and disciplines that stray from the colonial canon. The selected artists present works that question monumentality and seek the wisdom of localities. In this necessary moment of cultural transition\, each work acts as a source of inspiration from the recent past toward new futures. Rather than proposing a single path forward\, the artworks in Notes for Tomorrow present a network of overlapping solutions.\n\n___\n\nArtists of ‘Notes for Tomorrow’: Madiha Aijaz\, Ernesto Bautista\, Maeve Brennan\, Vajiko Chachkhiani\, Luke Luokun Cheng\, A Liberated Library for Education\, Inspiration\, and Action\, Nothando Chiwanga\, Shezad Dawood\, Demian DinéYazhi’\, Cao Guimarães\, Ilana Harris-Babou\, Rei Hayama\, Amrita Hepi\, INVASORIX\, Tamás Kaszás\, Ali Kazma\, David Lozano\, Mona Marzouk\, Joiri Minaya\, Peter Morin\, Omehen\, Daniela Ortiz\, Kristina Kay Robinson\, Luiz Roque\, Mark Salvatus\, Ibrahima Thiam\, u/n multitude\, Wayne Kaumualii Westlake\, and Yan Shi\n\nSource: UP Vargas Museum Facebook

SUMMARY:Health Updates Webinar #276 "May TB Kaya Ako\, Kahit Wala Akong Ubo?" The Use of AI for TB Mass Screening
DESCRIPTION:The University of the Philippines\,\nin partnership with the UP Manila – National Institutes of Health\,\nand in cooperation with UP Philippine General Hospital and UP College of Medicine\,\nwould like to invite you to attend this webinar! \n  \nRegistration slots are limited to this HEALTH UPDATES webinar\nSo sign up NOW:\nbit.ly/HealthUpdatesWebinar276 \n  \nWebinar #276\nMarch 6\, 2026 (Friday)\, 12:00 noon\nMay TB Kaya Ako Kahit Wala Akong Ubo?\nThe Use of AI for TB Mass Screening\n\nPresenter:\nDR. PAULYN JEAN B. ROSELL-UBIAL\nExecutive Director\, Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc.\nSecretary\, Department of Health (2016-2017)\n\n———————————————————–\n\nWebinar #276\nMarch 6\, 2026 (Friday)\, 12:00 noon\nMay TB Kaya Ako Kahit Wala Akong Ubo?\nThe Use of AI for TB Mass Screening\n\nThe persistence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis remains one of the most significant challenges to global public health\, particularly in high-burden settings where the clinical presentation of the disease often defies traditional diagnostic expectations. While a chronic\, productive cough has long been established as the hallmark symptom of pulmonary tuberculosis\, a growing body of evidence suggests that a substantial proportion of infectious cases are subclinical or asymptomatic at the time of screening. This diagnostic gap\, which includes the phenomenon of “TB without a cough”\, necessitates a paradigm shift in our approach to active case finding.\n\nIn this week’s episode\, we will provide a comprehensive deep dive into the pathophysiology of subclinical tuberculosis and the inherent limitations of symptom-based screening protocols. As frontline defenders of community health\, it is imperative to understand how subclinical infections can contribute to ongoing community transmission despite the absence of overt respiratory distress. The core of our discussion will center on technological advancements that offer a scalable\, highly sensitive\, and objective method for identifying subtle abnormalities that may be overlooked by the human eye\, particularly in high-throughput mass screening environments where radiologist availability is often a bottleneck. We will discuss how AI algorithms are trained to recognize patterns associated with early-stage TB\, effectively serving as a force multiplier for diagnostic accuracy. We will explore the nuances of screening sensitivity versus specificity and how these digital tools can be seamlessly integrated into existing primary care workflows to ensure that no patient is left undiagnosed. Our main discussant is Dr. Paulyn Jean B. Rosell-Ubial\, who is the Executive Director of the Philippine Tuberculosis Society Inc. and previously served as DOH Secretary from 2016-2017.\n\nJoin us and gain knowledge on how to implement more rigorous screening strategies\, which ultimately contribute to the global goal of ending the TB epidemic through early detection and rapid intervention.

SUMMARY:"Sharp Sensitivity Bounds for Markowitz Portfolio Optimization"
DESCRIPTION:📣 HAPPENING ON FRIDAY\, March 6\, 2026. 4:00 PM\, at the Judith R. Duavit-Vasquez and Class of 1984 Lecture Room (UPSE 105)\n\n🎓 UPSE-PCED Friday Seminar\, the first seminar in the series this March\, featuring researchers from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Research Academy.\n\n🧠📚💡Abstract: We derive sharp bounds on the sensitivity of Markowitz-optimal portfolio weights to changes in expected returns. Unlike the seminal Best–Grauer (1991) bounds\, our results remain valid under arbitrary convex constraints\, and the analysis does not require an invertible covariance matrix. The bounds remain governed by extremal eigenvalues and unify stability analysis across constrained and unconstrained settings. We further show that the standard budget and nonnegativity constraints induce an implicit ℓ1-regularization\, yielding sparse and stable portfolio solutions.\n\nThese findings clarify the structural drivers of portfolio instability and reinforce the theoretical rationale for constrained optimization and shrinkage in noisy\, data-limited environments. – with Elfred John C.
