This second lecture is part of the Seminar and Workshop Series of Dr Aranas on Advanced Manufacturing of Metallic Materials. This seminar presents a review of metal additive manufacturing and the projects of the UNB Alloy Design Research Laboratory in collaboration with Canadian industry partners. The talk aims to offer a general introduction to AM technologies, as well as an understanding of the current state of research on metal AM and its capabilities. Participants will gain insights into the fundamentals of metal AM and its diverse processing methods, alongside an introduction to the intricate physics of melt pool formation and the evolution of microstructure during solidification. The discussion will cover prevalent defects in metal AM, as well as the metals and alloys that are commercially available.

Various post-processing techniques to enhance physical and mechanical properties will also be examined.
