“Hazard Interrelationships and Dynamic Risk Scenarios”

Natural hazards–like strong earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, and extreme weather–do not occur in isolation and can lead to a cascade of phenomena that make disasters worse.
On this topic, Professor Bruce Malamud (Durham University) will be giving a NIGS Lecture Series talk on “Hazard Interrelationships and Dynamic Risk Scenarios,” on September 19 (Thursday), 4 PM at the NIGS Multipurpose Room.
This talk is open to the general public. Snacks will be served!
Dr. Bruce Malamud is the Wilson Chair of Hazard and Risk, and the Director of the Institute of Hazard, Risk and Resilience (IHRR), Durham University, England. Dr. Malamud’s research focuses on multi-hazard interrelationships along with single hazard research in landslides, earthquakes, floods and wildfires. His research subthemes include anthropogenic processes, invasive species, time-series analyses, mathematical models, visualization, complexity, confronting models with data, and communicating science.
This NIGS Lecture Series is being held in partnership with Iuvenis Orbis Geological Fraternity c.1972, the UP Resilience Institute, and the UP NIGS Volcano-Tectonics Laboratory (V-Tec).
