Webinar #239
May 23, 2025 (Friday), 12:00 noon
Ulyanin Na, Pandinig Mahina Pa!
Protect Your Hearing and Mind for Healthy Aging
Recent epidemiological and longitudinal studies have illuminated a robust association between untreated hearing impairment and an increased risk of developing various forms of dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. This is not merely a correlational observation. Emerging research points towards plausible pathophysiological mechanisms, including cognitive load theory, social isolation, and shared neuropathological pathways, all contributing to an accelerated trajectory of cognitive decline in individuals with unmanaged hearing loss. Understanding these mechanisms is paramount for developing effective and comprehensive preventative interventions.
In this week’s episode, our esteemed panel of speakers will present the most current scientific literature, discuss diagnostic paradigms for both hearing loss and dementia, and critically evaluate the efficacy of various interventions, from early auditory rehabilitation to cognitive stimulation strategies. We will emphasize the actionable steps that we need to integrate into clinical practice to identify at-risk individuals and implement timely interventions. In addition, we will discuss proactive measures we can undertake to safeguard auditory and cognitive health.
Our main speaker this week is the Chief Medical Officer of Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Dr. Jose M. Acuin. Our reactor is a practicing adult neurologist and dementia specialist from the UP-PGH Section of Neurology, Dr. Alvin Rae F. Cenina.
Join us as we work towards contributing to a healthier, more cognitively resilient Filipino society. Together, we can stop preventable deaths!
