Mind, Knowledge, & Analysis Philosophy Lecture Series

The UP Diliman Department of Philosophy cordially invites everyone to the Mind, Knowledge, & Analysis Philosophy Lecture Series this July 2025.

The event will be held face-to-face and is open to the public! Registration is also free of charge!

On Thursday, July 17, Ret. Prof. Samuel Vera Cruz, MA will be lecturing on “The Virtues and Challenges of Virtue Epistemology”. The event will take place at the Philosophy Conference Room and Seminar Room 1, Pavilion II, Palma Hall from 3 PM to 5 PM.

On Tuesday, July 29, Prof. Napoleon Mabaquiao, Jr., PhD from De La Salle University will be lecturing on “Searle’s Theory of Collective Intentionality: A Fregean Defense” from 1 PM to 3 PM, while Prof. Jeremiah Joven Joaquin, PhD, also from De La Salle University, will be lecturing on “The Philosophical Legacy of the Paski Boys”, a discussion of the history of analytic philosophy in the Philippines from 3 PM to 5 PM. The talk will focus on how Prof. Ricardo Pascual, founder of the UP Diliman Department of Philosophy, established analytic philosophy in the country alongside his group of then young, up-and-coming proteges and future UP legends Armando Bonifacio, Alfredo Lagmay, Jose Encarnacion, Cesar Majul, and Ruben Santos-Cuyugan. The talk will also cover how Prof. Bonifacio himself went on to build the next generation of philosophy teachers known as the “Bonifacio Boys”.
