Webinar #251
August 15, 2025 (Friday), 12:00 noon
Pag-iingat sa Paggamit ng Antibiotics
Navigating Rational Use in the Philippines

In an era where antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant and escalating threat to global public health, the imperative for rational antibiotic use has never been more critical. Like many nations, the Philippines grapples with the complex challenges of AMR, which jeopardizes the efficacy of life-saving treatments and increases healthcare costs and morbidity.

In this week’s episode, our distinguished panel of experts will talk about the judicious use of antibiotics for prophylaxis in surgical procedures like caesarean sections, the management of common urogenital and pelvic infections, and the critical importance of diagnostic stewardship to minimize unnecessary prescriptions. The discussion may also include the latest national guidelines and surveillance data from the Philippine Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance Program (ARSP).

Our main presenter is Dr. Sybil Lizanne R. Bravo, who is the Chief of the Division of OB-GYN Infectious Diseases at the UP-PGH Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is also the immediate past president of the Asia-Oceania Research Organisation in Genital Infection and Neoplasia – Philippines and the Philippine Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology Inc. Reacting to Dr. Bravo’s talk is Dr. Nikita Valerie C. Chua, who is the Head of the Section of OB GYN Infectious Diseases at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Quezon City. She also serves as Clinical Associate Professor at the Division of OB-GYN Infectious Diseases of the UP-PGH Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is also a member of the Task Force on Reproductive Tract Infections of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society.

Join us in preserving the effectiveness of the antibiotics for generations to come. This will be our vital contribution to the national public health campaign.
