From the very beginning, the alumni have been at the heart of UP Mindanao’s story. Their vision and advocacy were crucial to creating UP Mindanao through Republic Act 7889 in 1995. As UP Mindanao celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2025, the alumni’s enduring spirit of collective effort and camaraderie continues to inspire its journey.

During UP Mindanao’s 30th anniversary ceremony, UP President Angelo Jimenez and Chancellor Lyre Anni Murao honored alumni leaders whose collaborative work propelled the university forward. Khalil Guinomla, representing UPAA-Davao; Michael Cantos of UPLBAA-Davao; and UP Mindanao Foundation Inc. (UPMFI) trustees John Gaisano and Dinah Tolentino-Fuentes received the recognition on behalf of their organizations. Their efforts reflect the alumni’s commitment to UP Mindanao’s mission of excellence and service.

Alumni organizations have enriched campus life through collective action, with UPAA-Davao organizing events like the QuizUP Trivia Challenge and supporting the Kasadya celebration, Koro Kantahanay’s “Sangka” and the “Sari-Sari” concerts, and the Ramadan Grand Iftar. UPLBAA-Davao introduced its UP Fair tradition to Mindanao and was named a UPLBAA Outstanding Chapter. UPMFI’s scholarship program, now supporting 20 students, continues to grow through alumni generosity.

Beyond academics, alumni have delivered welfare initiatives and fellowships, including medical missions and the basketball championship bonfire. Their collective generosity also extends globally: the UP Medical Alumni Society in America, led by founder Dr. Cosme Cagas, pledged a professorial chair and scholarships for UP Mindanao’s upcoming medical program.

This milestone year will be marked by the Panagtagbo 2025: UP Mindanao’s Alumni Homecoming and the UP Regional Alumni Institute in Davao City, events that highlight the shared purpose of the alumni community. Here, UP Mindanao hopes for alumni support for its expansion program.

This year, the community fondly remembers former UPMFI chairperson Sebastian “Angie” Angliongto, a key figure in UP Mindanao’s founding, whose legacy of service and unity lives on.

As UP Mindanao marks 30 years looking forward, the alumni’s intensified support and partnership further enriches and invigorates the university’s efforts to deliver a brighter future for Mindanao.
