LINGUISTICS SPECIAL LECTURE SERIES

In celebration of International Mother Language Day (IMLD) 2026, the Department brings you a back-to-back Linguistics Special Lecture Series (LSLS).

The first lecture, to be delivered by Visiting Research Fellow (VRF) Jillian Melchor from the University of Helsinki, is entitled “What do we talk about when we talk about Chabacano.” The lecture is to be held onsite at the Pillar Herrera Lecture Hall on 19 February 2026 (Thursday) from 2:30 PM (PST) onwards.

The second lecture, to be delivered by VRF Eeva M. Sippola also from the University of Helsinki, is on “Sustainable Language Documentation in Creole Settings.” This lecture is to be delivered online (live) through the Department Youtube channel <https://www.youtube.com/@UPDLinguistics> this coming 21 February 2026 (Saturday) from 6:00 PM (PST) onwards.
