Webinar #279
March 27, 2026 (Friday), 12:00 noon
Bato sa Bato: Bakit Marami Akong Gamot?
New Guidelines on Urolithiasis
In the evolving landscape of Philippine public health, the rising prevalence of urolithiasis presents a significant clinical and socioeconomic challenge that demands a unified, multidisciplinary response. As we navigate the complexities of metabolic disturbances and environmental factors unique to our archipelago, it becomes imperative for frontline healthcare providers to sharpen their diagnostic acumen and therapeutic strategies.
In this week’s episode, we will attempt to bridge the gap between advanced surgical interventions and the essential primary care management of nephrolithiasis, ureterolithiasis, and cystolithiasis. The discourse will move beyond basic pathophysiology to explore the intricate mechanisms of crystal nucleation, growth, and aggregation within the renal papillae, particularly as they relate to the dietary habits and climate-induced dehydration patterns observed in the Filipino population. We will discuss the latest evidence-based protocols in medical expulsive therapy, the nuanced application of metabolic stone workups, and the critical role of diagnostic imaging in differentiating obstructive uropathy from masquerading abdominal pathologies. We will also highlight the pharmacological intricacies of urinary pH modulation and the technical precision required in laboratory stone analysis, thus ensuring that every member of the patient’s care team is equipped with the latest clinical insights.
Our main speaker is Dr. Marie Carmela M. Lapitan, who is a Professor from the Department of Surgery of the UP College of Medicine and Philippine General Hospital as well as a Fellow of the Philippine Urological Association. Join us as we elevate our collective standard of care, reduce the burden of recurrent stone disease, and optimize health outcomes for patients across the Philippines.
