Tuloy po kayo sa ating Tahanan!

We cordially invite you to be part of this year’s Linguistics Month that celebrates our department’s 104th anniversary of establishment. Centered on the general theme, “Tahanan,” Lingg Month 2026 also commemorates the 10th anniversary of the fire that ravaged the Faculty Center, the former home of our department, and reaffirms our right to a dignified home for our institutional growth and development.

Aug 28 (Fri): Department Welcome Assembly

Open to the new and continuing students of the undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as the faculty and staff of the Department.

Sep 02 (Wed): Lexicon Unpacked: Tahanan
Online, 6:00-8:00 PM
An online event that aims to unravel the meaning, usage, and context of terminologies related to tahanan, which are considered important for the history and culture of the community that uses them.

Sep 10 (Thu): Mimiayam: Mga Tala mula sa Fildwurk ng Lingg 225 sa Baybaying Pangasinan
Health & Wellness Center, 1:00-4:00 PM
A roundtable discussion featuring notes from the recent field research work in Pangasinan, highlighting the results of fieldwork, best practices in doing linguistic field research, as well as the challenges encountered by researchers in the field.

Sep 15 (Tue): Geolinguistic research of Austronesian languages (LSLS No. 4)
Health & Wellness Center, 1:00-2:30 PM
A lecture that discusses current trends in conducting research that delves into the interface of language and geography, space, and human environment, specifically in the context of languages belonging to the Austronesian language family, to be delivered by Dr. Atsuko Kanda Utsumi of Meisei University.

Sep 16 (Wed): Doon po sa Amin: Ugnayan ng Identidad, Karapatang Pantao, Lupa, at Wika
Health & Wellness Center, 1:00-4:00 PM
A roundtable discussion that aims to gather academics, experts, and advocates who have engagements with indigenous and local communities across the country to talk about issues on land rights, indigenous knowledge systems, and homeland.

Sep 17 (Thu): Tahanan: Sanctuary or Cage? Language, Identity, and the Engineering of Belonging – The Case of the Kadazandusun (LSLS No. 5)

A lecture that discusses the conceptualization of the word tahanan in the context of the Kadazandusun ethnolinguistic community in Malaysia, to be delivered by Dr. Trixie Marjorie Tangit of Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

Sep 23 (Wed): Expressing Home: A Roundtable Discussion
Pilar Herrera Lecture Hall, 10:00 AM – 12:00 NN
A roundtable discussion that aims to unravel the concept of tahanan and how it is perceived, ascribed meaning to, and built by various cultures in the Philippines and selected parts of Asia.

Sep 14 (Mon) – 18 (Fri): Hiram Ka sa Kapitbahay: Asian Cultures at Home
Online exhibit via Department FB page / website
An online exhibit featuring everyday objects typically found in a Filipino house, and how it traces these objects back to the cultures of the different countries in Asia.

Sep 21 (Mon) – 25 (Fri): FC 2110: 10 Years without a Home
Online exhibit via Department FB page / website
An online exhibit that features photos, videos, and other multimedia materials commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Faculty Center Fire that destroyed the then home of the UP Department of Linguistics.
