PasaliNgaday (Pasalida ngan Hingaday): A forum with women filmmakers from Eastern Visayas

The Division of Humanities and UP Tacloban’s Gender and Development Program have invited two women filmmakers from Eastern Visayas, Ligaya Villablanca and Chloe Veloso, to screen their films and talk about their works on 22 March, 1:00-5:00 PM, at the UP Tacloban AS conference room.

Ligaya Villablanca is a Cebu-based experimental filmmaker. She is a native of Tacloban City. One of her films, “Maupay nga aga, puniti kita”, won the Best Regional Entry for CCP Gawad Alternatibo 2020, Best Philippine Short for Salamindanaw Asian Film Festival 2019, and Horizons Jury Award for BINISAYA Film Festival 2020. “An Tawag ha Ika-pito nga Inup”, an experimental film, was an official selection of the Ngilngig Asian Fantastic Film Festival 2022 and the Non-Mindanao Short Film Exhibition of the Mindanao Short Fim Festival 2022. Her other works were screened in several film festivals like Cinema Rehiyon, Gawad Alternatibo, and Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. She is also the founder of Moving Eyelands PH.

Chloe Veloso is also a Cebu-based short filmmaker. She is a native of Tacloban City. Veloso is the founder of Amateur Creative Thespians of U.P. (ACT-UP), UP Cebu’s film organization. She is a graduate of the MA in Cinema Studies program of University of San Carlos, Cebu. Her film, “Pamilya Sinug”, won her the Best Director during the 2018 Sinulog Film Festival. “Pahiyom Alang Kang Evelyn” won the third Best Short Film and Best Story at the 2015 Sinulog Film Festival, and Audience Choice Award at the 2015 Singkuwento International Film Festival. Her other films were screened in film festivals like Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival, Cinema Rehiyon, and QC International Pink Film Festival.

The screening will be followed by a talkback that will also provide our audience an opportunity to interact with our resource persons and explore the role and contributions of women filmmakers from Eastern Visayas to Philippine cinema.

PasaliNgaday is part of UP Tacloban’s Women Wednesday series of activities in celebration of National Women’s Month.
