The Life and Legacy of Frank Caleb Gates: From the Prairies of Kansas, to the Shores of Douglas Lake, to the Hot Springs of Mt. Makiling

This 30 March 2023, starting at 2PM, Marilyn Gates will tell the story of Frank Caleb Gates, a young botanist and plant ecologist from the USA, who in September of 1912 arrived in Los Baños, Philippines as an instructor with the University of the Philippines.
He would spend 3 years teaching, researching, and collecting plant specimens on Mt. Makiling. Marilyn would share the story of a brilliant scientist who was a keen observer, with a photographic memory, with a personality reflecting his era.
