Book Launching “Tigom: Collected Poems”

UP Tacloban College opens its February Arts Month celebrations with the book launching of Professor Emeritus Merlie Alunan’s “Tigom: Collected Poems” (UP Press) on 7 February 2024, 3:00-5:00 PM, at the Main Gallery of the Leyte Samar Heritage Center.
“Tigom: Collected Poems” features Alunan’s new and unpublished poems as well as works from her six published poetry books: Hearthstone, Sacred Tree (Anvil, 1993); Amina Among the Angels (UP Press, 1997); Selected Poems (UP Press, 2004); Tales of the Spiderwoman (UST Publishing House, 2010; National Book Award for Poetry); Pagdakop sa Bulalakaw ug Uban pang mga Balak (Ateneo de Manila University Press, 2013; National Book Award for Poetry); and Running with Ghosts and Other Poems (Ateneo de Naga University Press, 2018; National Book Award for Poetry).
Merlie Alunan also shares her advocacy for literary production in the region through the UP VisWrite Creative Writing Workshop, which she organized along with other faculty members of UP Tacloban, and the Lamiraw Creative Writing Workshop which she co-founded with a UP Tacloban alumnus.
The book launch of Merlie Alunan’s “Tigom: Collected Poems” is part of UP Tacloban’s goal, through its newly-instituted BA Literature program, to advance literary production, literary history, and literary translation in Eastern Visayas.
