Clarinet Masterclass with Im Soo Lee

Everyone is invited to watch this clarinet masterclass!

Im Soo Lee, a soloist, chamber musician and former co-principal clarinetist of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, won First Prize at the Dong-A Music Competition while studying at the Seoul National University College of Music, continued his studies abroad after graduation and earned his Performance Diploma from the University of Southern California (USC) under Yehuda Gilad, Mitchell Lurie, Michele Zukovsky and later studied conducting under Rouis Dominique at the École Normale de Musique de Paris in France.

He has performed concertos with orchestras such as the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, Seongnam Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Gangnam Symphony Orchestra, Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Chungnam Symphony Orchestra, and Seoul Symphony Orchestra. His solo recitals in the United States, France, Germany, Portugal, China, Japan, Belgium, and Australia, as well as in Korea, have been highly praised.

Additionally, he has given solo recitals at the invitation of the International Clarinet Association (I.C.A.) in Texas, Ostende, New Orleans, Tokyo, and Atlanta. He has also been invited to perform and hold masterclasses at PORTO Festival in Portugal, Australian Festival, Beijing Festival, Lanzhou Festival, Taiyuan Festival, and Tokyo JSC Festival. Furthermore, he has served as a jury member for the Léopold Bellan International Competition in Paris, the Osaka International Competition, and the Chongqing International Clarinet Competition.

His performances have been featured in The Clarinet, the journal of the International Clarinet Association, and in the Australian Clarinet Magazine, which praised him for his “beautiful and captivating sound and technique that enthralls the audience” and for “touching the hearts of listeners with exquisite melodies shaped by remarkable virtuosity.”

He has released a solo album under the SUMMIT label in the U.S., a solo album as part of the KBS 1FM Korean Performers Series, and a clarinet trio album under the Aulos label.

Previously, he served as a Visiting professor at USC, Chairperson for Korea of lCA (International Clarinet Association), and Dean of the College of Arts at Dongduk Women’s University.

He is currently a Professor in the Department of Orchestral Instruments at Dongduk Women’s University, sponsored as a performing artist for Selmer, Paris, and is an active member of the Korea Festival Ensemble.
