In celebration of the National Arts Month this February, the UP Baguio Committee on Culture and the Arts, Dulaang UPB, Baguio Writers Group, and Literati proudly present DEMJA VU on February 28 at 5 PM in the CAC Dap-ay of the University of the Philippines Baguio.
Demja Vu is a play on the popular French phrase “deja vu” or ‘the feeling of being here before” and the Ibaloy word “demja” which means “to open the eyes after a long slumber.”
It is an evening of live theatrical reading performances from Dulaang UPB and poetry readings from the Baguio Writers Group before a bonfire at the dap-ay.
The Dulaang UPB will feature readings from “Tao Po” (excerpts mula sa apat na monologo ni Maynard Manansala), “Ang Pinakamakisig sa mga Nalunod sa Buong Daigdig” (dulang adaptasyon ni Teresa Lorena Jopson mula sa maikling kuwentong “The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World” ni Gabriel Garcia Marquez), “Pauwi Sa Amin” (dulang musikal halaw sa kanta ni Bong Ramilo na may parehong pamagat, orihinal na titik at musika ni Toto Colongon, iskrip ni Martin Masadao), “Lila” (hango sa tulang “Sa Ngalan ng Ina, ng Anak, ng Diwata’t Paraluman” ni Lilia Quindoza Santiago) at “Madaling Araw” (isang tula ni Lualhati Bautista).
From the Baguio Writer’s Group, new and classic poems by Brenda Subido-Dacpano, Babeth Lolarga, Aldrin Pentero, Allan Cariño, Luchie Maranan, Kabunyan Palaganas, and Frank Cimatu will be read by the authors and Literati.
An open microphone session takes place afterward. The event is free. Bring marshmallows.
