“Engaged Anthropology: Can Archaeologists Engage?”

Is there an archaeology beyond discoveries, research, and publications?
While archaeologists deal with the lives and cultures of those long gone, we need to acknowledge we aren’t isolated from the communities of the living. Whether residing by archaeological sites, working with the team, playing vital roles in historical-cultural-biological contextualization, or are just plain curious about what archaeologists do, there are advocacies at hand with these communities, lest we remain in our ivory towers.
This Wednesday (12 March 2025), Prof. Mary Racelis explores these ideas and leads an interactive discussion on “Engaged Anthropology: Can Archaeologists Engage?” at Seminar Rm. 2, Albert Hall, UP Diliman, from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Join us in-person or via Zoom. This is the first of a three-part series collaboration between the UP School of Archaeology Binalot Talks and the Ugnayang Pang-Aghamtao (UGAT) @ugataghamtao.
As always, the Binalot Talks are open to everyone and we even encourage bringing your lunch as you attend. See you there!
