Webinar #201
July 19, 2024 (Friday) 12nn
“Sama-Samang Labanan ang Sakit sa Batô”
Demystifying Chronic Kidney Disease in the Philippines
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a growing public health concern in the Philippines, affecting millions of Filipinos and imposing a significant burden on the healthcare system. In this week’s episode, we will provide a comprehensive overview of CKD pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment options. We will discuss the spectrum of CKD, from early stages to advanced disease, outlining the risk factors specific to the Philippine population, such as hypertension and diabetes. The latest diagnostic tools and techniques for assessing kidney function, including glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation and urine analysis, will also be addressed. Treatment modalities will encompass both conservative management strategies, such as lifestyle modifications and dietary interventions, and pharmacological approaches, including the appropriate use of medications to control blood pressure, manage proteinuria, and address other complications.
Our main presenter is Dr. Coralie Therese D. Dimacali, a multi-awarded nephrologist from the Philippine General Hospital who has also served as past president of the Philippine Society of Nephrology and is currently the Associate Dean for Academic Development at the UP College of Medicine. Our reactor is a chronic kidney disease patient, Ms. Rowena Quiambao Centeno, who will provide valuable insights from a patient’s perspective by highlighting the challenges that CKD patients face and the importance of patient-centered care.
By the end of this webinar, we hope the participants will be equipped with the latest scientific understanding, practical management strategies, and patient-centered approaches to effectively address this growing public health concern.
Together, we can stop preventable deaths.
