Scabies and Yaws: Neglected Tropical Diseases of the Skin
Scabies, caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite, and yaws, a bacterial infection caused by Treponema pallidum subspecies pertenue, persist as significant health burdens in many regions, particularly in tropical and subtropical areas. Despite their prevalence and impact on communities, these diseases often remain overlooked, earning them the designation of neglected tropical diseases.
In this webinar, we will look at the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic challenges, and management strategies of scabies and yaws in the Philippines. Renowned experts in dermatology will share their insights, experiences, and research findings, providing attendees with a comprehensive understanding of these NTDs.
Our main presenters are Dr. Rowena F. Genuino, who is Professor 4 at the Department of Anatomy of the UP College of Medicine, and Dr. Belen L. Dofitas, who is the Chief of the Section of Skin Neglected Tropical Diseases from the UP College of Medicine and Philippine General Hospital.
