Critical Congenital Heart Disease Screening

Early detection of congenital heart disease (CHD) is critical for improving infant outcomes. In this webinar, we will take a look at CHD screening strategies, equipping frontline healthcare workers with the latest scientific knowledge and practical tools.

We will discuss fetal echocardiography, a prenatal ultrasound technique used for CHD detection. We will also explore pulse oximetry, the non-invasive newborn screening method for critical CHDs, and discuss emerging technologies like pulse waveform analysis. Additionally, we will try to cover best practices for managing positive screening results, including referral pathways and communication strategies with parents and specialists.

In this webinar, general medical practitioners will learn to recognize potential CHD risk factors during prenatal and well-baby visits. Nurses and medical technologists will gain a deeper understanding of CHD screening protocols. Pharmacists will learn how medications can impact the care of infants with CHD. Maternal-fetal medicine specialists can deepen their knowledge of screening advancements and refine their approach to prenatal counseling.

Our main presenter is Dr. Jonas D. Del Rosario, who is currently the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the UP-PGH Department of Pediatrics. Our reactor is Ms. Viennah Lou Corrompido, who will provide the perspective of a mother of a blue baby patient.
