Webinar #196
June 14, 2024 (Friday) 12nn
Kangaroo Mother Care
“Pag-Asa ng mga Sanggol na Premature”

Imagine a world where a premature baby, fighting to regulate their temperature and breathing, finds solace nestled on their mother’s chest, her heartbeat a comforting rhythm. This is the power of kangaroo mother care. Kangaroo mother care or KMC is a practice where a newborn receives skin-to-skin contact with a caregiver, is a cornerstone of neonatal care. But KMC is not just about skin-to-skin contact. It is about creating a haven for your tiniest patients.

In this week’s webinar, we will talk about the science behind KMC, specifically its impact on preterm and low-birth-weight infants. We will talk about how KMC optimizes thermoregulation, respiratory stability, lactation success, and neurodevelopment. We will also examine the latest research on initiating KMC, optimal positioning techniques, and overcoming implementation hurdles. By the end of this webinar, we hope the audience will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to confidently integrate KMC into their practice, fostering the best possible outcomes for vulnerable newborns.

Our main presenter is Dr. Maria Esterlita V. Uy, who is currently the Director of the Institute of Child Health and Human Development at the UP Manila – National Institutes of Health. Our reactor is Dr. Fay de Ocampo, who is a practicing neonatologist from the Division of Newborn Medicine, UP-PGH Department of Pediatrics.

Imagine the impact we can have together, fostering optimal outcomes and a nurturing environment for every newborn in our care!

Together, we can stop preventable deaths.
