Webinar #205

Diabetes in Children… Paano Ito Maawat?

Diabetes mellitus, a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, poses a significant public health concern worldwide. While its impact on adults is widely recognized, the implications of this chronic condition on children have gained increasing attention.

In this week’s episode, we will discuss the different aspects of pediatric diabetes and the complex interplay of factors contributing to the development of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in children. We will discuss the underlying pathophysiology, including the role of autoimmunity, insulin resistance, and genetic predisposition. We will also talk about the diagnostic criteria and diagnostic workup for pediatric diabetes, emphasizing the importance of early detection and timely intervention.

By the end of this webinar, participants should have gained the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage children with diabetes. They should be able to identify high-risk populations, implement appropriate screening and diagnostic measures, and develop comprehensive care plans.

Our main presenter is Dr. Sylvia C. Estrada, who is the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at the UP-PGH Department of Pediatrics. Our reactor is Dr. Angelica Tomas, who serves as Medical Specialist II at the Division of Ambulatory Pediatrics of the UP-PGH Department of Pediatrics.

Together, let us foster interdisciplinary collaboration among healthcare providers and empower them to deliver optimal care to young patients with diabetes, promoting improved health outcomes and quality of life.

Together, we can stop preventable deaths.
