Webinar #212

Colon Cancer: Prevention, Detection, and Management
Colon cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, presents a significant health challenge in the Philippines. In this week’s webinar, we will discuss the current state of colon cancer epidemiology in the Philippines, highlighting the specific demographic and geographic variations that influence its occurrence. We will also discuss the latest research findings on risk factors, including lifestyle choices, dietary habits, and genetic predispositions, to provide valuable insights for prevention and early detection.
In terms of prevention strategies, participants will learn about the importance of lifestyle modifications, such as regular physical activity, a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and avoiding excessive alcohol consumption and tobacco use. We will emphasize the role of screening programs in detecting colon cancer at an early stage, including the benefits and limitations of different screening methods, such as colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, and fecal occult blood testing.
Our main presenter is Dr. Jeryl Anne Silvia Reyes, who is a colorectal surgery consultant from the Division of Colorectal Surgery, UP-PGH Department of Surgery. Our reactor is Dr. Edhel S. Tripon, who is an excellent gastroenterologist from The Medical City.
Join us to gain a deeper understanding of colorectal cancer, how to take preventive measures, recognize the early signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer, and seek appropriate medical care. Let us all work together to promote colorectal cancer awareness and help improve the outcomes for patients in the Philippines.
