Webinar #213
October 11, 2024 (Friday) 12nn
Mga Bagong Solusyon sa Hamon ng Cervical Cancer:
Empowering Filipinas for Early Detection and Prevention

Cervical cancer remains a significant public health concern in the Philippines, despite advancements in healthcare. We will also discuss the latest research on cervical cancer epidemiology in the country, highlighting the prevalence rates and socioeconomic disparities associated with the disease. In addition, our panel of experts will discuss the role of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection as a primary cause of cervical cancer and explore the effectiveness of HPV vaccination programs in reducing the incidence of the disease.

Prevention and early detection are crucial in mitigating the impact of cervical cancer. Hence, we will cover the importance of regular cervical screening, including Pap smears and HPV testing, as well as the benefits of HPV vaccination for both women and men. We will also discuss the challenges and strategies for improving access to cervical screening services, particularly in underserved communities.

We will explore treatment options for cervical cancer, including the range of available approaches, from surgery and radiation therapy to chemotherapy and targeted therapies. By understanding the disease’s distribution and risk factors, we can put more emphasis on prevention, early detection strategies, and appropriate treatment in improving patient outcomes and reducing mortality rates.

Our main presenter is Dr. Cecilia Ladines-Llavees, who is a cervical cancer elimination advocate and serves as technical advisor to Jhpiego Philippines. Our reactor is Dr. Lilli May C. Teodoro-Cole, who is the chief of the Section of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center.

Join us in empowering everyone to contribute to the ongoing efforts to reduce the burden of cervical cancer and improve the health and well-being of the Filipino population. Together, we can stop preventable deaths!
