Kanser sa Mata: Anong Magagawa?
Retinoblastoma Among Children
Retinoblastoma, a rare but aggressive eye cancer, casts a long shadow on the lives of affected children and their families. In this week’s episode, our esteemed panel of experts will dive into the intricacies of retinoblastoma, unraveling its complex genetic underpinnings and clinical manifestations. We will explore the alarming statistics surrounding this disease in the Philippines, highlighting the urgent need for increased awareness and early intervention.
We will discuss how to identify the early signs of retinoblastoma, such as leukocoria, or the presence of a white pupil. Recognizing these subtle cues can significantly improve early diagnosis and treatment outcomes. We will also discuss the latest advancements in treatment modalities, including chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and innovative surgical techniques. We will explore the challenges and limitations of these approaches, as well as the importance of a multidisciplinary team approach to optimize patient care. Beyond clinical management, we will talk about the psychological and emotional impact of retinoblastoma on patients and their families so we can understand the unique needs of these individuals and provide comprehensive support to improve their quality of life.
Our main presenter is Dr. Amy N. Goleta-Dy, who is the Head of Pediatric Oncology at St. Luke’s Medical Center – BGC.
