Webinar #233
April 4, 2025 (Friday), 12:00 noon
Mga Bagong Pamamaraan
Female Fertility Preservation

The imperative of preserving female fertility has become increasingly relevant in contemporary healthcare, driven by evolving social dynamics, advancements in medical treatments, and a growing awareness of reproductive autonomy. We recognize that frontline healthcare workers, often the first point of contact for patients, play a pivotal role in identifying individuals who may benefit from these interventions. In this week’s episode, we will attempt to address the critical need for a nuanced understanding of the physiological, pharmacological, and procedural aspects of fertility preservation.

Our distinguished speakers are some of the leading reproductive endocrinology and infertility experts from the Philippines. They will discuss into the intricacies of ovarian reserve assessment, including the utility of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) testing and antral follicle count (AFC) via transvaginal ultrasonography. They will elucidate the various fertility preservation techniques, such as oocyte cryopreservation, ovarian tissue cryopreservation, and embryo cryopreservation, detailing the indications, procedures, and potential outcomes associated with each modality. We will also explore the impact of medical conditions, including oncologic diagnoses requiring gonadotoxic therapies, and non-malignant conditions like endometriosis and premature ovarian insufficiency, on female fertility. In addition, we will discuss the ethical considerations surrounding fertility preservation, including informed consent, long-term storage, and the psychosocial implications for patients.

Our main speaker this week is Dr. Virgilio M. Novero, Jr., who holds the position of Professor V at the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, UP College of Medicine. He is also the Scientific Director of the Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine and Infertility, St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City as well as the Founding President of the Philippine Society for Fertility Preservation. Our reactor is Dr. Gladys G. Tanangonan, who is Associate Professor III at the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, UP College of Medicine. She is also a Board Member of the Philippine Society for Fertility Preservation.

Join us as we foster a collaborative approach to reproductive healthcare, ensuring that women are empowered to preserve their fertility and maintain control over their reproductive destinies.
