Webinar #259
October 10, 2025 (Friday), 12:00 noon
Lung Nodule Management: High Tech Na!
The escalating prevalence of high-resolution, cross-sectional imaging modalities within the Philippine healthcare system has resulted in an increasing frequency of incidentally discovered pulmonary parenchymal findings, often presenting as small, non-calcified, and clinically indeterminate sub-centimeter lung nodules. These findings pose a critical diagnostic challenge, thus creating significant anxiety for patients and necessitating a precise, evidence-based management strategy for all healthcare providers involved in the continuum of care.
In this week’s episode, we will provide a comprehensive and practical framework for the multidisciplinary assessment and management of these lesions by translating complex global guidelines into actionable local protocols. We will systematically review the contemporary approach to risk stratification by detailing the critical clinical and radiological parameters that distinguish benign lesions from those requiring urgent intervention or meticulous surveillance. We will discuss the proper use of established prediction models and the interpretation of suspicious morphologic features and growth kinetics, which are crucial steps that empower the frontline medical professional in determining the appropriate patient pathway. In addition, we will discuss the role of advanced diagnostic techniques, including percutaneous needle aspiration and navigational bronchoscopy, and the indications for definitive surgical resection, ensuring that all participants understand the complete progression from detection to therapeutic decision-making.
Our main speaker is Dr. Edmund E. Villaroman, who is the Chairperson of the Thoracic Surgery and Anesthesia Department at the Lung Center of the Philippines and who is also the Head of the Thoracic Section of the Institute of Pulmonary Medicine at St. Luke’s Medical Center. He also serves as Director of the Philippine Board of Thoracic Cardiac and Vascular Surgery and a Founding Member of the Southeast Asian Thoracic Society. Our reactor today is Dr. Joven Roque V. Gonong, who is a practicing pulmonologist and is the Chief of the Section of Interventional Pulmonology and Bronchology at the Lung Center of the Philippines.
Join us as we try to elevate the quality of pulmonary nodule care, minimize unnecessary invasive procedures, and ensure the timely diagnosis of malignancy so we can improve long-term outcomes for patients across the Philippines. Together, we can stop preventable deaths!
